I wanted to make this race so bad this year, but my mom would kill me if she didn't get to see me walk across the stage and get my diploma.
I missed my college graduation (because of the military)....one of the biggest regrets of my life.

It's 1000X more important than a DH race....

Seems as thoguht we will be getting yet another year or wet and wild Massanutten. To think I actually thought we might get lucky and miss the rain. Looks like I better pack my scuba suit.
i don't know..most recent update i'm seeing has dropped the rain chance down to 30% instead of 60%. i'm doing my anti-rain dance in my underwear right now!

Yeah, I really want to race this weekend but i really don't want to race in the rain again. At least 2/3rds of the races I attended last year were wet or actively raining, and I'm just not gonna do that again.

So adam, does this mean you're actually racing downhill this year?

Yep im racing as many races as possible, trying to do every gravity east race and as many snowshoe races as i can hit. Finally got a proper DH bike, no more racing DH on a 5" slalom bike : )

i saw a lot DHF/DHR combos out there last year. mud tires really didn't seem to make much of a difference last year because it was a very soupy mud, not peanut buttery. anyway, the course is loamy dirt, gravel, and lots of rocks if that helps your tire choice.

i'm running dhf/old high roller for friday and dhf/dhr for saturday.

Come on Clay...just imagine its a world cup course. Its another oppurtunity to make your armor gnar.

Actually one of you guys might know. I don't know what 66 looks like in the mornings traffic wise. Last year I dont remember it being busy but I want to either leave thursday night late or Friday morning hella early. When's the traffic start getting gnar Friday morning?

You should be allright going West on 66 during morning rush hour. 66West Bound gets bad during evening rush hour. I'm heading out of NOVA and plan and leaving maybe 8ish or 9AM Fri morning?

As for closed registration sorry I actually DID register, just was curious to see how many ppls were in my category (Cat=OLD+SLOW)

So forecast now looks like scattered storms... How bad is it out there when wet? and how do the lifts hold up to lightning?

It's clay and a few other styles of soil so it holds up well. As for the lift holding up to lightning???? Kind of a stupid question. The lifts shut down if lightning is spotted, just like any other mountain.

Sir Manimal felt the full experience of the wet last year:

:busted:

Also, does anybody need a ride from the Raleigh/Ch area?

I'm really looking forward to this race...Wished it would be dry though.

Is it always the same course, or do they change it up a bit each year?

haha...and i'll probably be wearing that same antiquated body armor this time too. i think i bought that rock garden jacket used in '06 so who knows how old that thing is...smells good too :thumb:

edit: i will have several used DH tires for spares in case anyone has a complete blowout. if you or anyone you know needs a tire to get through the race come find me at the beat up green subaru wagon or ask around for "tubby" and i'll hook you up.

:brow: are you serious?
fraid so. aside from the pain and suffering of racing in the rain, my biking budget is severely limited this year as I've been funemployed since february. I've gotta pick my trips a little more carefully. gonna feel pretty lame for bugging out if the weather holds overnight though.
