The pics are really nice.

I think Maynard James Keenan is the only member of a metal band that can sing worth a **** though.

That is definitely an awesome shot of the pit.

On a side note, maybe I need to give mastadon another chance but I've seen them live twice and never been impressed. They seem like your very average metal band and nothing special at all. They're coming to town on the 14th - I may have to go give them another shot.

Their new album is excellent, definately worth another shot.

Great shots narlus, really dig the tenth shot down of the guy playing the five string.

VERY nice shots as always...your concert shots have a very "dynamic" feel I don't get from a lot of other photogs. Keep up the good work!

Seriously? I mean I like Tool and all, but there is a plethora of great stuff out there if you look for it...check out Diablo Swing Orchestra, a female opera-trained singer with avant-garde instrumentals and the occasional scream/snarl.

Calling any band Maynard has been in a "metal" band is as silly as calling any of them industrial bands (which I have also heard several times).

BTW - Puscifer is the berries; that is all.

No worries man, just calling it like I see it.

Now I'm all stoked to go see some concerts! Secret Chiefs 3, Deerhoof, Les Claypool, and Gogol Bordello are all coming up soon, although I don't know if I can go to the latter yet.

I could never get into Mastodon. I've seen them 2 or 3 times over the past 4 years and own a couple albums, but their music just seems too bland to me. Nothing really sticks out that makes me think "oh, these guys are interesting."

Very cool pics though. A show at the Palladium is bound to be a good time.

are you getting paid to do this yet? if not, you should be.
not as a matter of course...sometimes, but not too often. there's a lot of shooters, and as you probably know, magazines are going tits up left and right, websites are notoriously chintzy, and the music industry as a whole is foundering. hopefully i'll have some residual value in the shots i've taken, but really i don't do this for $.

this was @ house of blues; i've actually never been to the Palladium yet.

of the Mastodon stuff, i like _Leviathan_ the best..."blood and thunder," "iron tusk," "i am ahab" are all great tunes. the new one's a bit of a grower on me, esp "The Czar."

Agreed. I think Crack the Skye edges out Blood Mountain, though I really really like "Sleeping Giant"

Oh wow, looks a lot like the Palladium at first glance.
Sorta, but I want to say the Palladium is bigger, and I'm pretty sure the balconies are curved, not straight.

Awesome shots Narlus, particularly like 1, 3 and 9.

no book plans, but i've toyed w/ the idea of doing a local exhibit somewhere...

btw, do a Flickr search for Shawn Brackbill...the guy takes *awesome* portraits of musicians...he's really good.
