i might get my hands on a domain with a blown cartridge. it is 180mm travel and i need it to be 160mm at most. I would really like to get the internals to make it a u-turn. My question is if it is possible to reduce the spring 180mm to 160mm and if it is possible to get the leg internals to make it u-turn. Also if i am forgetting anything that would be a problem, let me know.

Just for anyone who might find this thread and wonder. I found the answer to my question. Yes it can be done. I called sram tech and they told me everything i needed.

If you have a 302, you can upgrade to motion control just by buying the cartridge. It has the knob and is good to go.

If you have a 318 or a 302 and you want it to be u-turn you need
-new spring, it is u-turn specific
-u-turn knob
-u-turn top assembly, pretty sure the lyrik kit is what you use
-bottom plate for the stantion.

All in all to do all the upgrades it should be just shy of 200 dollars for the regular customer.

If you are using the lyric kit for the top assembly would that mean that it might be able to make a domain 2-step?

Doubt it. The 2-Step guts need to have pretty tight tolerances on the inner diameter of the stanchions to make a seal, and I doubt RS bothered with the Domain uppers, since they weren't designed to be used with a 2-Step spring. Plus, the inner diameter of the stanchions isn't necessarily even the same, given the different materials (though given what the OP said about using a Lyric cartridge, it sounds like at least the threads at the crown are the same.)

i called sram tech service about the coil conversion and that is good to go. it sparked my interest when i thought about doing an air conversion and i asked the guys at the shop and they said that the inside of non-air forks is probably not good enough to maintain that air seal like you would need to make it a 2-step. i mean you could probably do it but it might suck real bad. call sram tech, they are amazing. suspension dude i talked to walked me through everything i needed to know and went over it again to make sure i got it right. thumbs up customer service.
