Update on http://ridemonkey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217886&highlight=dirty+bird...Check it out if you missed it the first time around.

LOTS of digging has been going down, but my SLR is busted so I haven't been taking any pics. Luckily I snagged some stills off my vid cam during the dig sesh yesterday. We added the first pedalling section of the track, a high speed, off-camber grass sprint across the ski slope. The lower sections of the track are gonna be super visible for spectators at the lodge. Can't wait to finish this thing and host a demo day!

A couple pics:

Not sure what that means but the track is at Hawksnest resort (the dirty bird) in Seven Devils, NC.

Seven Devils is right between Boone (Where I live), and Banner Elk (where the sugar mountain norba national was held a few years back). The track is about 700 vertical feet and should be an action packed sub-2-minute run for pros.

Hopefully mountain biking will grow at this resort depending upon the success of the race in august.

That's sick - nice to see track builders not trying to "conserve elevation" like they tend to do over here, and just making a sick steep track that's shorter instead of a flat lame track that's longer!

Exactly...we've got very little pedalling on the track and cornering, jumping, and technical skills will get you the win. 700 feet is less than ideal for a DH track but we figured if it was pinned the whole way nobody would complain.

haha, 700ft is more than double what they've got for the Mt Stromlo worlds track...

The guy in the last pic is dreamy. I'd hit it.

Brian - holla. Carter's or Clemson soon? Even a bro day at Big Creek in ATL would be good.

Who cares about the numbers. The track is chocked full of roots, rocks, berms, berms, berms, jumps, off camber, grass, loam, and oh yeah berms. Nice track boys.

Update. The track is complete! We got pretty nuts with this last section. Crazy berms in open rhodo shale field. We also installed a set of 10 whoops to offer some minor speed control coming into the berm section. The dirt on this part of the mountain is nice and sculptable with solid rock content to make it durable. We lined the back of the berms with large rocks and installed a nice sized drainage pipe for water management. After the berm section there is a small step up and a massive chute drop. The chute is pretty densley covered so I couldn't really get a pic of it but its nice.

Berms following the above rock berm.

Whoops for speed control before the berm section. Very skimmable and theres a lip to kind of double onto them as well.

Trail Grill.

The final product is about a 2 minute run and requires all types of riding skill. I have some really nice video clips from this section I'll try to post up soon. Tentative date for public track testing day is July 4th.

Nice work, that looks really sick and it seems like you put quite a lot of effort in building this trail. I'd love to ride it.

We'll see what the response to having it on the 4th is. It works for the people at the mountain and its on a saturday this year, but if most people already have obligations we'll try another weekend. Or we'll do two.

That looks awesome guys. I met Mike and Peter at Wisp this weekend, and they were telling me about the race, but the course looks even sicker than what I had pictured. I'll definitely have to try to make it down from WV.

Glad they were representin' while they were up there, you won't be disappointed if you make the drive. There should be a lot more to ride by the time the race rolls around. 1 run and a few other things are done already.

I'll finalize details for the demo day this week.
