So I picked up a large M6 with a Manitou Revox. It came with a Nuke Proof 350 Ti spring. Whenever i go deep into the travel, I get a nice creaking noise. From the looks of the shock body, the spring is rubbing on the shock body.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a rememdy? From looking at the clearance, it doesn't look like there is much room for a larger diameter spring.

Other then that I love the bike. I just don't want to kill the shock.

Two mates have m6's, both of them sound in his words like "mating hippopotamus's", you can here them coming for miles. Not really much of a remedy that I can think of. Revox's don't have a plastic sleeve like DB's.

I believe what causes it is the fact that springs are finished with the end coil bound, but as the spring compresses the bit that isn't bound just next to the end, it bends causing the rub.

This sort of thing is pretty common on 3+" stroke shocks/springs. try and see if you can reposition the spring a bit between the upper collar and the preload collar. sometimes shifting it a few mm one way or the other solves the problem. If i change the preload on my shock (3" vivid/ti spring) sometimes i have the same experience, shifting the spring around a bit between the collars usually does the trick.

Don't know too many people using that shock, but it might just be something inherent w/ the revox/spring combo you are running.

you could get a steel spring, more coils/lower pitch gives less bending, I think.
Or just tape the shock body and replace that on a regular basis.

The solution to the problem is an Obtainium ti spring. The inner diameter is 1.5 inches and it will not rub. I went through the same thing on my Socom until I got the Obtainium spring.

There is no solution to this problem you are going to have to deal with it.
I had this issue w/ a dhx about 5 years ago when i was running a spring that wasn't too straight. Until i could get a new spring i took a piece of xc inner tube and stretched it over the shock body. didn't stop the spring from rubbing but it stopped the noise. might be worh a shot.

Thanks guys. I'm going to go for the tape or XC tube. A new spring is not in the cards right now.

i did this on my 2:1 DHS. since i have a abnormally large spring on the shock (4.5" stroke shock), it rubs because of it's length. rotating it around so it sits a little better solves the problem typically.

I have the same issue with my m6 but no noise. When I said it can't be fixed I ment the rubbing not the noise.

I had cane creek send me the plastic sleeve
