I too call BS on the 60hp 125 2T. My 380 2T puts out that much.

Weed what part of your piston lost the chunks or was it the rings? Did you have the correct piston (#1 or #2 OS) in there? Did you have it mic'd and honed?

Splitting cases isn't that huge a deal once you have the motor out. How badly damaged is your cylinder?

The power valve got stuck open, and part of the right side valve door gouged into the piston and got exploded throughout the motor.

The issue was 100% powervalve failure. The piston was indeed a Wiseco, and was always properly warmed up, and had nothing to do with the problem I had. I am putting another Wiseco into the motor this time around as well.

The cylinder is getting welded where all the large gouges, scratches, and holes are, then it's getting re-chromed. I'm having the machinist rebuild the bottom end as well. It'll take him under 2.5 hours to do it right! That's super fast.

Basically, it means it's time to buy a 250 2t! The old '00, '01, and '02 CR250 is calling my name. Almost as light as my 125, much more power, better ergos, easier to wrench on, and a lot easier to install a headlight. Perfect!

Did you verify your Z and X dimensions on the last top end? The powervalve should be clearing the piston stuck open or not.

The 250 2T's are nice. Super light feel on trails. Check out the KTM 250 EXC model too from '01-'02. They can work VERY well off-road. Getting a pipey track bike 250 to be remotely friendly offroad is going to be a chore between the flywheel weight, suspension, 19" rear wheel, ignition, etc etc.

Bull ****????

It makes 46bhp stock, mine was a factory riders with lots of tweeked parts...i had the dyno print out for 60bhp

"The TM125 engine makes 46bhp... but needs a rebuild every couple hours. I wouldn't doubt it with 16.7:1 compression."

It would dick cr/yz/rm/exc's all day long, seriously it was quick...Why would i lie? The AMA outlawed them!!

WORD.

I'm not trying to start a pissing match but this sounds like the displacement version of a Pinkbike drop. Let's see some dyno graphs (and if it truly puts out 60hp, I'd rub one out to the dyno chart like it was a Playboy!).

Numbers are showing 35-39hp for the TM 125 stock, which is still high for a 125. Not a chance in hell you're getting 60, sorry. Race fuel, head trimming, cylinder porting, carb mods and even lightening up your crank/piston is good for a few HP, not 50%.

I don't doubt they're quick. 125's are light and pipey little mofos.

You are welcome to try my 380 in a 3rd gear roll-on into a hillclimb if you want to see what 60hp actually feels like....

The whole PinkBike label on the picture automatically makes it questionable.

Done!!! I will dig out the dyno...

I don't see how you don't think its possible? There's 125 road race bikes doing well over 130mph with probably more power than mine was...

Also what's wrong with pinkbike? I don't use the forums there, so don't engage with all the childish BS, but i do use it to dump all my photo's. Whats wrong with that?

Fair do's if you don't believe me, that's fine. But why try and make me sound like a kid or tweaker just because I use PB? By the age of 17 i had two regional MX titles to my name, as well as several national BMX races, and in my latter years NPS downhill. I am honestly not some kid trying to show off, its all fact.

Anyway, i really gotta stop going on forums while at work! (lots to do.)

Seth: where are you riding there? Racetown?

I have been riding indoors a few times this winter (I think 7-8 times). We have a couple of indoor tracks up here but one of them just closed. Didn't pay their bills.

Rode at Windrock and Red Bird, KY a few weeks ago. Windrock MX trails are way more difficult that the DH trails. Anyone that has riddent he DH trails will tell you that they are advanced. Doug (profro) gave us a good tour.

Picking up the new 450SXF today. :D

And with regards to the 60 HP 125, I don't beleive that it would be useable power if it does even make that much. The 125 Cafe bikes that he refered to turn over 15K RPM and make the power in a very narrow window. A built 450 hardly makes that much power. And to run that high of a compression ratio you had better be running 110+ Octane race gas.

Somebody lied to you buddy. The KTM road race bikes are said to put out 55hp. Those bikes are run on fuel that is not legal in mx and they are built to run in a narrow RPM range. A stock KTM 125sx puts out about 36hp. The factory KTM 125's from Langston and Hughes (when Langston won the 125 national title a while back) put out 38-39hp depending on how they wanted their motor to respond.

Read through this thread ( http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=543517 ) and tell me you still think you get 60hp.

bhp is at the crank

whp is at the wheel

Most of the time people are refering to WHP when discussing bikes since they are being dyno'd in the chassis with a slick on the rear wheel. If you want to look at HP dyno curves, there are a bunch of cool plots in the pictures section on www.jdjetting.com

He even has a dyno run with a bicycle. :)

Well, my 1995 yz125 jalopy is finally running after a couple weeks of hair pulling and waiting for parts.

Still some odds and ends that will need to be replaced eventually but overall she seems fairly solid.

Now I just have to figure out how to get it out to my parents' place in VA without a pickup truck. . .

So if I am a bigger guy (210# nude) and I want something that can do a little bit of everything besides riding on the street, what do I want?

By "a little bit of everything" I mean:
- Sand dunes
- Desert runs
- MX track runs
- Some single track runs up the mountains

I've been riding street bikes for a decade now, and have some time riding duals, but I am sort of wanting something just for the dirt these days.

Any suggestions?

I went the budget route on this bike, but if I don't kill myself and stick with it I'll probably end up getting a small 4t dual sport like a wr250 or something.

I had a 450R. I don't really get all the talk about them being too much to handle. I think the power is pretty smooth. Definitely a good all around bike. Couple other friends have 250 two-strokes. Just a different feel.

The only 450 I've ridden that I've considered to be "too much to handle" was a really raced out KTM 450 SX with a retarded off-idle hit that made it want to wheelie if you looked at it wrong.

250's and even 125's can get out of hand way easier than any 4T I've encountered, just because they're so rev happy.

I thought my 380cc 2T was going to be just completely uncontrollable when I got it to the point where I was flat-out scared of it the first couple times I rode it. To the contrary I've found it to be a really amazing offroad motor because it doesn't have to redlining just to get power. Even when you do have to rev it, it's always controlled (but it sure sounds mean as fvck!).

Thread Resurrect!!!!

Are you on the 380 KTM? I think my next bike is going to be orange because I'm really loving the 2 stroke thing and I ultimately want to be street legal. So far the YZ is the perfect budget beater/starter bike but if I were going to keep it I'd probably end up feeling the need to do a bottom end and a bunch of seals and bearings and such, and at that point I've got too much money in a 1995 bike.

The way you have to rev the 125 can be scary on tight trails too. I was riding it with stock gearing for a bit before going down to a 12t in front and with all the hills and rocks on my trails I was moving at a crawl and winding the engine up like crazy and any little mistake with the clutch would cause an insta-wheelie or shoot me off the trail. Lets just say it was a learning experience. . .

Also working on the bike has been very interesting. Bought it non-running and have had to replace pipe seals, carb jets, rear tire, crank seal, plug, sprocket, stator etc . . . was so worried I'd never get it running but that first ride was glorious.

I bought a kx250f back in march, I haven't really gotten to ride it too much yet, but it's been pretty fun so far.

I haven't rode in a while, but I have a 2002 YZF 426.

It's definitely fun, I'd like to get a smaller bike though one day, maybe a new CRF250R.
