New Thin Flat Pedals from the Bro's

Looks like the bro's have finally publicly released their new pedals, they look pretty sick. Interested to hear weights and cost on these badboys.

Looks like bad news for flypaper pedals, I was hoping he'd find a way around the proprietary crank, but I don't think they're going to catch on with these around.

Think I'll be the first to jump in and say they look a bit rubbish, I would much rather have a nice concave pedal that has a nice feel than something that is thin for the sake of it with a load of pins. Looks like the raised surfaces will push your feet off the pedal.

radness. beat flypaper to the punch & worked around the proprietary axle issue. some not so subtle plagiarism going on, but i love the concept & this is a much more viable iteration. curious to see the weight.

to each their own, I'm much more partial to a thin pedal, they don't roll as easily as taller concave pedals. I really dig the idea, I'm very interested to see how they ride.

Hmmmm...

Seems to me like the bushing bulge would bother me if I ripped a couple pins out. The pins have to be pretty long to work it seems. Do they have any measurements on how thick they are at the axel? It seems like my Aircorps are just as thin there...

they look pretty sweet.

i wonder if the bottom of your shoe would rub on the axle and cause drag?

so, these are using bushings instead of RC car bearings?

The bearing/axle bulge is my first point of concern... but if you think about it.... its maybe what, 1/4" at most? I think we need some first hand experience reports before judgement is passed.

For those that flat out call them rubbish: I highly doubt Chris and Lance would put their name on something that wasn't the high quality they are known for. If they didn't feel that these pedals were ready for public viewing, we wouldn't be seeing them.

I'm sure the bulge is fine. Look at the Ruben Alcantara pedal from Fly bikes. The idea isn't exactly new.. But the canfields are thinner.
I think the canfields look good.

The CB pedals dont look like they would shed mud very well.

The Point One on the other hand look like they would.

I wonder how they would hold up to a larger rider like my self. I would want to know there was some serious strength testing done before i took a 10' plus drop with them.

....

have you ridden any other flats? Because the axle system on these is just as strong.

And I guarantee lance and chris are riding these pedals harder then you ever will if such an unscientific test makes a difference.

I can't tell if you're just trolling. It looks like you made an account here to make this one post.

Anyway, thanks for the e-rider tips.

Pretty weird. I rode with Chris a week ago and didn't even notice if he was on them or not. He didn't mention them. I guess black pedals are a little harder to notice.

Yeah, it's Canfield Bros, not Crank Bros. ;)

Eugh, I hope they're heavy, I don't want to have to spend £200 on pedals again (I like to have the same on all of my bikes).

They're thin for sure, but those tall pins are just begging to be bent, broken and otherwise destroyed.

Nice looking though.

Good= Thin

Bad=flat surface, no mud clearing, exposed axle & THAT BUMP

No-one ever made a good convex pedal - look at 5050s FFS

This looks like a great idea ruined by pushing it just a bit TOO far

That said, I haven't ridden them and they may be the best pedal in the world. Good luck guys, I'm sure they have been tested as I don't think Canfield make any bad products.

Good idea. Would like to try them if they come with a box of replacement pins. No way I'm spending $30 a month to keep them in.

these are awesome looking!!

rant commencing:
why I am the first one to say this, I don't know; guess I'm just a logical thinking "hater", but what does the weight of your pedals have to do with anything?

if you ride fast, you're fast. if you ride slow, a set of light pedals SURE as hell isn't going to make you any fvcking faster. get over your egos.

seems as if everytime I come to the DH forum the threads and comments continue to grow lamer and lamer.

guess I'm a hypocrite for posting here in the first place, but who isn't.
at least I don't whine about the weight of my pedals. :nopity:

woah. Big rant. Didn't know I'd gotten to somebody so bad. Apologies. Mostly I'm just trying to learn stuff and share my experience, sorry for coming off as an ass.

Do you actually want to know why I care about weight? Bushings or bearings, its not like there is anything super special going on with that axle that would make it way different from most other pedals.

At any rate, don't really want to get into a big argument, ridemonkey has had enough of those lately, sorry for coming off as a dumb e-rider.

Your face.
I've sait it once, and I'll say it again. There is simply no reason to be on any other pedal other then the Konas. They are thin, strong, cheap, and work brilliantly.

The only other reason to get more expensive ones is bling, possibly at the cost of performance/ durability/ sanity.

you could easily swap them for shorter pins. I don't know why you'd be more worried about these bending over the point ones, it looks like the pins go all the way through the pedal, a little lock tite to keep them for threading out and they should last a long time. Personally, I love my aircorps, they've taken a beating and i haven't had a single issue, but i really want to try these CB pedals just to see how they feel. I wonder how much thinner they are than my aircorps?

i'll second that. I have a set of the atomlab duplicate pedals and I think they're the best I've ever tried. Zero maintenance, zero problems, super grip, super thin...I can't ask for more. I kept them when I sold my old bike.

I think there may be areas they can be improved, but it seems to be all or nothing with the current crop.

no worries. probably came off as a little too wrathful anyways.

long live the internuts.

on with the pedal debate! I will whole-heartedly side with DM on this one. Having owned many sets of the Kona Wah-Wahs are the best bang for your buck hands down. Not to be 'Timex'-cliche but they take a licking and keep on ticking. A cinch to rebuild also, a huge plus.

What kind of pins are you replacing that rack a bill like that?

0.5" set screws are like a dollar a dozen at the hardware stores, right?

I have seen all the Protos and the finished last sample they got. They will hold up and the pins are not that long its that the pedal is that thin. Chris and Lance have a great pedal and its funny to hear all the crap about something that none of you have ridden.
Funny crap.

You must be new around here. Pages of speculation from people who have zero experience with the product only happens on days that end in "day" around here.

Pedal does look cool though. That's really all I can tell about it just from looking.

Those rock and will be on my next build! :thumb:
Diggin the look and they arent as expensive as some of the top flight pedals but not cheap either.
Guaranteed if Lance is running them then we need not worry as to the strength of them.
PArts break the days of 60lb DH tanks is over so there will be sacraficial parts on impact. Hell frames break and they cost ALOT more than pedals. (got a couple of frame deaths in the past as do alot of monkies Im sure)

what's funny is a sponsored rider who comes on a board where everybody bench races and talks about how they're dumb and their chosen manufacturer is the best.

Please don't try and have me believe that your best friend's or sponsor's product is the best there is. In fact, don't say anything...let people with an unbiased opinion decide...unless you have facts to give, not a load of crap.
