So whats actually going on with Nathan Rennie? Is he not getting on with the bike? Is it lack of recovery time from his knee op? I want to see him back on form!

I know about Rennie's knee, but are there other "issues" that have contributed to his performance? Not trying to stir the pot, but if I recall some RM members have alluded to this in the past.

Give me a break, you think 9-11 was a conspiracy too?

Rennie hit some really rough patches in his personal life a couple years ago, things you never 'recover' from...that can not help.

was anyone else dissapointed with where the cameras were filming? I'm not talking just Freecaster here... everyone. I barely saw any footage from the woods. It seems to me that all we saw was the top of the course, and the bottom of the course, and nothing in between. I would have liked to see how the riders handled that new wooded section. There isn't even many pictures of the wooded section.

Come to think of it, it might have something to do with the midges. They were probably worse in the woods than in the open. hmmmm. Might have to pony up and get the video guys some of these: http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?c=2&p=10292&cat=2,51555&ap=2 :monkeydance:

Ditto. We mostly saw the bottom "flat" part and none of the woods. I reckon the camerapositions also get chosen to get the most track coverage in combination with some excitement (like some jumps) rather than get only small bits of the most technical wood sections.

I guess the best footage of those parts will make it to the bikemovies eventually anyway. ;)

Hill's last split was terrible, definitely not just down to being on flats surely?

Yeah the midges were out, and more so in the woods, but not as bad as previous years. All you need is Avon Skin So Soft and they don't bite..

The wood section looked faster and easier than the previous one. I saw one of the Parkin bros fiming in the woods on Sunday practice but guess the footage didn't make the final Dirt vid cut. For some reason all UCI the cameras are in the dullest parts of the course and makes it look really easy and tame, which is a shame cos the course is pretty good in most parts.

maybe a roadie chooses where the cameras are set up, nice pedally sections with lots of straights.

Last year they had a camera on a structure that covered a big part of the top section.
That combined with at least one camera in the woods would have been awesome.

yeah i found it a tad boring to be honest.. most of the parts that were covered had one line choice, and were smooth so it was like watching the same thing over and over again.

Barels insight into the race kept me watching tho.. and Warner telling Nigel page to stop with his sensless bike advertisements had me laughing!

yeah, me too, and its annoying the piss out of me. Same thing happens to the other vids too. I can't even watch to the top 5 men in its entirety.
Freecaster download time is abissmal. It was dial up speed for me last night, then just after Minnaars run it spat me out and I didnt get to watch Gee. I watched all the other clips floating around, download time was fast.

The way it was explained to me, heli's wont work for live coverage in 'most' of the locations MTB races are at as the sattellites have a hard time beaming through mountains/heli's???
Thats why live F1 heli footage works no problem (usually in the flatlands), but they (freecaster guys) told me a place like schladming, andorra, etc will not work, but MSA, worlds, etc would.

Definitely not going to happen. Could easily be top 15 or even top 10 but there are much better riders right now that excel on those courses. Hill, Blenkensop, Minnaar, Smith to name a few.

I would love to see Steve Smith get a top 5 on that course.

Brycland had a podium/top 3 time prior to exploding last year, and got 9th there the year before when he was only 17

times are super tight at maribor... one mistake on you get left way back.

Josh does not 'excel' on maribor???
If I remember correctly he qualified 5th his first time there and was 9th in the final, so he was what? 16 yrs old then?

And last year had a MINT run going and blew himself up in the rocks because he was going faster than anyone in that section.

Glad he doesn't have experts like you advising him.

In junior's.

I'm sorry stik, I forgot that he did well in one race there. I still don't think that he will make top 5. Top 10-15 for sure but I don't think that he has a chance to win due to some of the names that I mentioned.

Plus I did not say that he does not excel on that course, I stated that he would not be better than the names mentioned earlier.

The kid has an immense amount of skill and I see many podiums for him, just not right now.
Knock off the ego trip stik.

Well I'm stoked that he had such a good run at Fort Bill. I may not know what I'm talking about, but I think he's as fast over any section of course as any other rider racing today. I think the result at Fort Bill shows that he is learning race craft and focus that will make him a champion. A short course could be just the place for him to put it together.

Riding with the likes of Minnaar and Peat definitely doesn't hurt.

The kid has some amazing skill and will be on top of the podium for many years.

Ego trip?
I am stating facts about Bryceland...he was a junior competing in the PRO CLASS at the 2007 maribor event, top 10 in both quali and final AS A JUNIOR. Also, check his times before he wadded last year...AND he was top 10 in last years quali....still a junior. Interesting you throw in Steve Smiths name in your 'top 4' when he his best result this year has been 10th???

How defending a racer and chiming in with his accolades makes me 'ego trippin' is beyond me, but then again the racing IQ's in this place has always been very low.

Do you really not see how talented or how much potential that kid has ? He's a lanky 18 year old who's just placed top 10 on the World Cup's toughest and longest track...

When He fills out a little I honestly think everyone apart from a non-crashing Hill are stuffed.

Fairclough is way overdue for a win in my opinion. We'll just have to wait and see @ Maribor.

On the freecaster note, I'd be happy to wait an hour for the vid to buffer or something if it ensured smooth contant playback. I wish one of the cable TV stations here picked it up and replayed it as it's a pain when the connection freezes and whatnot. Oz Broadband uses a bloody tin-can-and-string subnet or something.

True in some venues, you would need pretty much full line of site of the chopper from the TV tech area in order to get your live signal back, if the chopper disappears behind a part of the hill / trees you could loose signal.

Just finished working with some chopper cams at the Volvo Ocean Race in Ireland, they truely offer the best shots and for a DH race they would fill in the sections we cant see. What I'd love to see is a chopper shot of a section followed by a ground camera slo-mo replay of the section you've just seen, rather than just the same section again slowed down. Chopper affords rob and co-comm live action chat and then the slo-mo gives them the opportunity to really scrutinize the line / bike / rider / pink jersey! Really would give a huge range of chat if your not seeing the same thing again just this time slower.

I reckon that above all the cost of putting a chopper cam onto a wc race would be so dear that unless the budget increased to meet it you would have to cut nearly all the course cameras to afford it. (unless someone in the UCI accounting department has a spare chopper lying around they wanna loan out??)!

As for beaming out onto a satellite, if the tech area is in a valley the sat truck can't see out, therefore streaming it out onto the web can be the the best option / cheapest, there are other ways of doing it but other in tv world means $$$$$$
