Turner troubles

Hey, I just got my 06 DHR and noticed there was a wobble in the lower link, I just presumed this was a wobbly bearing, but on closer inspection I noticed that the whole bearing is moving in the frame. Is this common with this bike? I'm trying to get through to Turner via email but no replies yet. Is this a common problem? People have told me that it is fixable with shims and green loctite but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm this?

Are you talking about the big bearings in the main pivot near the BB or the lower needle bearing below the bottom shock eyelet? If its the larger pivot, I'm having the same problem with one side of mine. I've been told that thread locker will hold this bearing in the frame and solve the problem. Hopefully someone will provide some insight.

I had play in the needle bearing at the junction of the rear triangle and the linkage, but new hardware from turner seems to have solved the problem.

...now if I could quit destroying lower shock eyelet reducers.

Theres play in the needle bearings aswell, but I can pop the lower cartridge bearing out with my fingers! Not good.

They bearings do go out and will need to be replaced... did you buy the frame used? I was in luck and my seller just put in new bearings right before I bought it.

I suggest getting a new set of bearings and a zerk fitting to grease and take good care of them! They will last so much longer

the frame totally rocks and mulestar I was having that same problem, but the bike shop hooked me up with a more expensive option?
I haven't had problems sense

I don't mind having to replace the bearings, I'm just a bit worried that I can pop the lower cartridge one out with my finger and it wobbles around in the frame.

I can also pop my bearings out with my fingers. However, once they're all set and the main pivot bolt is tightened up with the rear triangle in place I have no play. I used to have play in those bearings but I called Turner and they sent me some shims, new bearings and updated bearing cups. With the shims I ended up having to use two shims on one side and one shim on the other which seem like a lot but its solid now. Also, use some green locktite on the main bearings.

Good luck!

nmake sure the washer/spacer is in there with it, and possibly some blue loctite (and let that **** set, dont install and go!)

Not uncommon at all in my experience with DHR's.

Blue loctite is not sufficient. Blue is a mild thread locking compound. Green is a bearing retaining compound more suited to, you guessed it, retaining bearings.

Green locktite comes in two types, thread locker and sleeve retainer.

Sleeve retainer is the one you want. Thread retainer will not hold bearings in the frame properly.

Guess how I found that out.

Correct, Loctite 609 (green) is the one you'll want to use for bearings.

I went from destroying the DU and the reducers in a long shuttle day, to going 3-4 hard months on one DU bushing, and not wearing out the pin/sleeve kit.

Fox and Rockshox both have less expensive options than the Marz setup. M6x22.0

It's pretty hard to wear out a stainless steel reducer. I keep a fat bag of DU bushings around and change them out as soon as they develop any slop at all, and I'll get a full season out of the reducers. The DU bushings will always develop the play before the reducer will, and they're much cheaper.

Just talked to the guys at Turner and they shipped me out some shims and some sleeve retainer for the main pivot.

Still no luck tracking down stainless reducers or DU bushings online...anyone know where to get them?

Universal Cycles carries both the Marzocchi and Rock Shox reducers as well as DU bushings.

I wasn't offered shims or retainer, they just told me to get some green loctite for myself. Which I need to order from America costing me 20 dollars in total :disgust:

my 04 has the jagged edge of what looks to be a red bull can jammed into the main pivot. ran pretty damn smooth for another 3 seasons after I got my hands on it. im sure once you get the pivot shimmed or loc-tited (teehee) in place it will bring you many units of fun.
