You'd be the only one! Most of the riders think it's terrible, but are here for the money.
Sorry, this is lame! If they have that strong of an opinion about how bad the track is they shouldn't race it. I am with boogenman though. Sick track and if you show the footage to someone without MTB background they go like "wow, that is cool" in contrast to if you show them Sam's run from Champery and tell them this was one of the best runs of all times they are more like "really, what is so special???".
IMO there should be a variety of race courses, from Champery to Willingen. And it is a good thing that you bring racing close to populated areas so that you get a lot of spectators and show them how cool the sport is. Everybody is complaining how little pro payout there is, but then most pros don't like those "lame" courses that draw a lot of spectators and subsequently would bring in more money. WTF????

Actually, next to maybe the Calgary course from 04(?), the Willingen one might be the most universally panned World Cup course there has been in the past 5 years. Except for the tens of thousands of speedo clad, fanny pack wearing, David Hasslehoff fans the event was equally hated by the riders, teams, and media alike!

The riders now go b/c of the cash and also b/c the German media turns out for it. Sorta like Sea Otter but in the middle of the season and in Germany.

the place looks fun to ride, but why wouldn't you want to race it?
haven't raced in years and then only in england/wales with lots of peddling.
would of killed for a track like this. or am i missing something? (a brain maybe)

wonder how many of those 1000's of spectators at ft. william ran home and bought dh bikes? lots of times spectators show up just to see something new or to enjoy the whole spectacle of it (met several old french canadians at the bromont wc doing just that). An international troop of street performers came to burlington last summer and for 3 days downtown was absolutely mobbed with people checking it out but nobody's kids ran off and joined the circus.

Just because it wasn't a worthy world cup venue and track, doesn't mean it still cant be a fun worth while race. I'd enjoy racing there, but can understand why its not in the WC circuit any more. Track blows Sea Otter away as far as I'm concerned.

Pissing rain and crazy wind today. Practice cancelled. Too cold to party at the rider party.

The weather forecast looks pretty good for the weekend.

I think the track's pretty neat, but then I haven't seen too many WC courses... Kinda pedally at the top, but some nice doubles here and there. And the hip/gap right before rock section sees some pretty good action every now and then.. I remember seeing Riffle and Neethling(??) doing some huge tabletops over that one last year.

Hope to run into you Fraser... I'll be arriving tomorrow morning before training starts.

P.s. I'm new here.. Is it normal to do an intro somewhere..?

Yes but the weather is usually Sea Otter-esque - cold, rainy, windy

"some" media...
Ok, English-speaking media ;)

Cool pics. Hot chick maybe but not before the 5th hefeweisen consumed.

I was there before the build the track. Nothing spectacular but the bed and breakfast was cheap and the local bar/disco was a blast not to mention the beer and my number one favorite German food schweinshaxe.

Good track or not the Germans has created a good show, lots of people show up and have fun plus the riders win some real money. In stead of complaining America should learn.

Had a great weekend..!

Hey AllOutProd... I think I spent some time with you near the rock section, where you had a hard time finding the right angle.. Good talkin' to you guys.

Just one of many shots...... Kyle Strait.

Has Mick won anything yet this year, or am I right in thinking he has a string of 2nd places? Must get a bit annoying - still amazing though!

I think the whole point of having a good covrage and a lot of specators is that there can be sponsors outside the industry that have A LOT more money than the bike companies. Look at F1 or Soccer in europe where a big chunk of sponsoring cash comes from outside the industry. Ie. Look at one of the crankworx sponsors ;)

BTW. Weren't the euro champs at the same time as this race? That would explain why most of the top guys weren't there.
