in the worst freakin weather pattern. We have been getting rain every day or two, and its not a normal rain but a straight up downpour. It has just blown everything out. Worst part is, we get a nice day to dig the silt out of the bowls and patch stuff up and boom, the sky opens up and trashes everything again. Right now my trails look like its march after a hard winter, and its freakin june.

Almost enough to make a guy want to ride park. . . almost ;)

alright I'm done boo hoo'in, time to get some ibuprofin and get back to diggin.

same here.. just rebuilt 3 jumps to near perfect shape, finally got my first small line I'm actually somewhat proud of then it started raining for days, then there was a short sunny period, and right when everything was fixed and almost dry enough to ride it started raining again.
I don't mind waiting a bit, but the worst is that a) there's a fresh line and it hasn't even been tested b) no matter how hard you pack the surface, the soil erodes so easily here and I know the next time I'll get back I can start smoothing the surface again (I can't stand the look of eroded jumps)

Its either trilogy or your place tonight. Should I bring the double squish or will the duece4 be ok? Keep in mind the duece4 only has one brake.

Sh!t, its supposed to be movie night with the gf, she was doin a 24 hour race over the weekend so I haven't seen her since thursday. Hmmm... she might be pissed.

So, when are we riding? :brows:

Double squish, short travel is ideal. Ryan rides his p1 with a rear brake only, so its up to you. You only need a front brake if you intend on not hitting something.

I understand if you can't make it. I'll be there by 5:15, if I get out early I'll call you. do you know how to get there?

Tarps are expensive, discarded carpet does work very well. keeps is moist but the dirt work erode. You can leave them down and ride if you don't mind getting slowed down a little.

no tarps?
I have probably 1/4 mile of trail, maybe more and maybe 25 jumps plus rollers and berms, its just too much to tarp everything. The other thing is, it is usually not a problem with normal rain, we have been getting the monsoons. We got something like 9" of rain in one day last week.

we bought 4mm uline poly sheeting. 2 rolls 10'x100' $34 ea. not bad and it works great. anything thinner is a waste imo. go with 6mm if you can.

carpets are great but if you ever want to move a saturated pc of carpet, you know what a pain in the ass that is.

Thanks for the plastic link! I'm ordering some for my annual "4th of July slip and slide extravaganza"

Where the riding is good
Ditto. My trails got OWNED by the recent torrential downpours of hail and rain in Colorado. Had to rent a trash pump from home depot just to drain the pits. Not cool.

groms right, NC has been the suck for building this season,
especially at our current build spot, it hasn't even gotten close to dry out between the after rain we've been having on nearly a daily basis

Send some of that rain our way... we're in the middle of our yearly drought... probably won't see another drop til january. Thank goodness for water sources at the trails.

Damn Tort.. I was going to suggest it would be a great time to dig a new line but sounds like you've got enough to worry about.

I may have made that statement once or twice, but I really like the new stuff so I'm keeping my mouth shut this time.

Everyone bailed last night, I'm not talking about you. I mean Danny and Rod, I ended up just digging most of the time. I did a few runs but I was working on roughing in some of the new goodness. Lots and lots of rocks in this section, my back kills! I'm going out again today before it rains for another week!

Yeah, the rain has been a bit too much, but the drains have been keeping the area I am at pretty clean. The new stuff is toast since it can't get ridden in yet, so that stinks.

Positive side is moss, lots of moss and ferns which I love seeing.

Fall will be that much better this year.

I'm waving. Can you see me now?
I am loving this rain for building. I have great dirt with rocks in it. But that is what you have to expect out of jersey. The rocks hold the jumps to together crazy good. The only thing the rain has been doing is taking away that new double smell.

I need it to be pretty wet to make any progress in digging. There are a lot of rocks at my trail caked in clay under 1ft of powdery crap dirt and roots. The rain makes the crap dirt stick together and the it loosens the rocks up.

I might not be riding as much, but dirt is moving. That's not really a bad thing.

Ted, I'm ordering a sheet of 4mil 10x100 plastic for my slip and slide extravaganza. you can have it to cover jumps when I'm done with it.

Looks like our weather might finally break.

We are down to 20% chance of thunder storms. . . . every day this week.
