So far really impressed with the handling and quickness of this bike. I do find the end of travel in a few more spots on the local trails, but its much faster in the tight stuff. IMO a good trade off. Much more lively and fun, that's the point right?

Nothing was sacrificed for reliability. No single ply, ultra sketch wheels, etc...
36.55lbs

Medium pearl white ss
09 Boxxer world cup
fox dhx, 450lb ti spring
Formula One brakes, 200mm
sunline bars, stem, grips, saddle
thompson post
slx 170mm cranks
Ethirteen guide
twenty6 ti pedals
Hadley hubs, mavic 823's
Dual ply 2.5 DHF front, 2.35 highroller rear
sram xo shifting
kmc x9sl chain

At first I was going to lower the boxxer to 7", but after a couple runs it seems to ride just fine at 8". The static head angle is 65* at 8".
The DHX will probably be canned for a vivid, but unfortunately my ti spring would need to go as well.....$$$

Enjoy.

That thing is sick! I have an SS as well and it's been an awesome bike. I wish the headtube angle was a little slacker, so I might go and do a new Boxxer sometime soon.

Again, nice bike, looks like some fun.

Wouldn't the reducers they make for the socom to change the ha fit the SS? OR is the HA not 1.5? It would eliminate the need to use the boxxer to slacken the bike out.

Is mini dh the new dh?
Ha! Im sure its not for everyone, but here in SoCal there is not much need for anything bigger. Stay smooth and pick your lines, its a little more of a challenge in the rockgardens, but much faster overall.
Ill be packing this thing to northstar and whistler this summer. I may miss my big bike then....

Ps: I would love some gold boxxer decals, anyone got a line on some high quality ones?? RUFUS back yet?

Yeah, I don't get it. It's not that these bikes don't rip, they do, but it's that they are so specialized. The geometry, the BB, the slack angles, heck, ask Intense about riding the SS bike as a "trailbike" with the seatpost extended (it's not recommended due to the stress and construction of the SS). How much better is this than something like an RFX with a 160-170mm fork? Those types of bikes did have somewhat higher BBs, but they are lowering them some these days. It seems that you could have FAR more versatility without taking much of a hit in terms of downhill performance. There are plenty of shuttle-downhills where I prefer the RFX, yet it can be ridden everywhere, including uphill.

Anyway, there are some cool examples of the SS bikes, I just can never see myself even considering one due to how specialized they are, as time goes on will the 6"ish travel "agressive all-mtn/light freeride" bike get so good that it takes over? Or will the SS bikes continue to get more specailized, and will there be any real benefit to this?

Still waiting on the licensing agreement from Sram. I sent him another email the other day. I have one set of gold with the letters cut out so that the fork color comes through. I will email him again to see if I can sell those as they were part of my remaining stock.

There will be a new thread when everything is up and running.

I just swapped out my DHX for a Roco and it totally got rid of the issues I was having with my SS. SO much deeper feeling now and WAY more lively!!!

Yeah, I have a DHX on my bottlerocket that has the same no mid travel damping issues. Had one on my Demo8 as well, sent it to push, and still ended up canning it for a CCDB.

I would love to try a vivid, but a wc rocco is cheaper, since I don't need a new spring. Good call...
