HB - Do I personally think weed is immoral? No. Am I the law? No. The law wins.

I'm just demonstrating that just b/c you might think something is "immoral" doesn't give you any excuse to flaunt the law. This wasn't like she was pulled over for speeding and they found a pipe and a little baggie. This was a trailer full.

As others have said, if you want a protest a law, protest it. Distributing 400# of ganja ain't protesting it's profiteering.

-ska todd
Fair enough, and well spoken. I do, however feel that when I disagree with a law, I most certainly defy it to the best of my ability, taking into consideration the likelihood of success versus consequences. And no, that hasnt always been to my benefit. However, I will not repress what I feel is my right and freedom because someone else imposes something different on me.

Yes, she was in it for the money (if indeed it is all true, and moreso provable) and not the Robin Hood of Ganja, and Im pretty sure she's smart enough to know she was taking a pretty big risk (although if she did do it, and has been doing it for a while, she may have gotten 'too comfortable')

She may have broken laws, and I dont doubt expects to be held accountable (again, if they can prove it); but the notion that she deserves punishment is vile and unreasonanle in my opinion. (not humble)

what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

and Huck Bonzai, great posts, thanks for bringing some rational thought to this discussion
I tend to ramble, and show my ADHD prominently, but I usually get something across! (even if its disagreed with :) )

I have a habit (bad?) of immediately editing posts repeatedly - most go through 3 or 4 edits to add, change and correct things == this gets me accused of 'changing my story' so I have to watch out for that....

Whats the deal with Rockefeller laws? this is NY -- and Im pretty ignorant about the details of said law(s) short of knowing it exists.

Were you awake for the OJ trial? (1st one.........)

Most people thought that was a slam dunk. Apparently not. Things are not always what they seem.

If you were told that I, Huck Banzai, killed someone, you would likely think badly of me.

If I later it was revealed/prooven that they were in the process of trying to kill me, and it was self defense, Im inclined to believe your opinion would change.

Its pretty likely she's guilty, but its not definite by any means.

I imagine you may have more facts than the rest of us, but Im also pretty sure all the info isnt available yet.

You want her to go to jail? I'm confused....

You know when you see some ass darting though traffic and just generally being a dick. And you pray for a cop to come along and pull him over? And then on the one freak occasion when there is ACTUALLY a cop and the guy DOES get pulled over? You know that quiet satisfaction you feel? Well that's how I'm feeling about this.

And come to think of it.....and this is getting a little out there....but let's say she had gotten away with it... what would be next? You think she would have called it quits and thanked her lucky stars? Or would she have pulled another job...something bigger and better?

You really suck dude.

What has Missy done to piss you off? Win a few races? Get on the cover of several mountain bike and pro-gay magazines? Supply marijuana to Saratoga Springs?

To me, she is not much different than the friends of mine who smoke pot around the country and around the Capitol Region. Yeah, she had a huge stash, but she isn't Scarface.

and come to thnk of if, who says this was her first time doing this? Maybe she's been at this for a while. And maybe even though nothing "unsavory" was found on this bust, who says there haven't been guns or anything on previous jobs?

I've never been a fan of hers. I was always a much bigger fan of AC Chausson...largely because she was better. Missy was always second fiddle...(Like Nico and Peat!)

Didn't much care for her racing style. She wasn't fast because she was good (like AC), she was fast because she was too stupid to ride within her limits.

And then she pulls a stunt like this because again, she's too stupid to earn an honest buck like the rest of us.....like Leigh Donovan for instance, then I say screw her. She's not worthy of anyone's respect....or pity

How barbaric & cruel it is to lock a human being in a cage for possessing a harmless plant.

To those of you laughing about this, try to engage what little intellect you have & ask yourself, does 5-40 years locked away with murderers & rapists seem like justice to you for possesing a plant that grows in nature?

Disgusting...

Try to grow a batch of tomatoes in your backyard. See if you can sell them at the end of the summer.

Growing pot ain't like throwing seeds in the ground and six months later you pluck buds off the vine.

To me, there's no difference between growing pot and someone growing barley & hops and selling it to Sam Adams.

The Mendocino County economy is staying afloat thanks to local pot growers. I don't think these guys are cheech & chong, just growers making a better than average living. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28354324/

He's guilty of murder. He just had the money to get away with it.

Aha, now the truth is revealed.

Thats some potent Haterade you're sippin there. Start making suppositions about what she might have done, or might do, when you dont even know if she's guilty of this -- but you're willing to assume, which is a stellar skill...

Nice ass kiss attempt tho.

Excellently articulated rebuttal...

For an encore are you going to stick your thumbs in your ears, wiggle your fingers at me & yell nya-nya-nya-nya?

You strike me as right wing, let me ask you something... do you believe in God?
Oh that's pretty funny.....oh yeah....real right wing....that's me. We canadians are real conservative folk....but I guess in comparison to a unwashed hippy, I guess I would appear to be right wing.

And god? No not really.

Hardly an ass-kiss I think. Just saying that despite having been a largely uneducated pro racer at one time, it is still possible to make an honest living. It's not like the "industry" or the "scene" used her up and spit her out, forcing her into a life of crime.

She is a 'largely uneducated pro racer'?

Have you met Missy? What do you personnally know about her, aside from your assumptions and prejudices?

I guess that's sort of degree-like....

Which...makes it all the more ....I don;t even know what the word is. She actually COULD have gotten a job in a field for which she is trained....likely still affiliated with cycling if she wanted.

But she chose to be a dumbass.

How is she not letting down her "fans" by having done this?

And come on....I think we can admit that she did indeed do this.

The difference is that in Medocino the crop is going toward a legal use. Missy's crop was CLEARLY not for legal use. The Taliban is funded by the poppy trade. Poppies can be legal but in the purpose they're being grown for in Afganistan they are not. Barley & hops are not illegal to make into beer but in some countries it is and you will probably get worse punishment than Missy is facing for her 400lbs.

Ok then...enlighten me. Does she now hold a PhD in quantum physics of which we are unaware?

Prove me wrong and I'll happily admit it.
She went to college in New England somewhere so she could ski.

You're all justice and that's okay, many people on this site are- probably why huck assumed you were right wing.

This is just sad to me because on one hand Missy was one of the friendliest and honest pros on the circuit in the '90's. She would even share advice and lines, unlike many of the stuck-up asses back then. She even used her own money to sponser other females (beneke's wife stacey I believe was one) to race back then. What male in the sport would sponsor others in the hopes they would be a friendly threat on the circuit??

On the other hand she has had every opportunity in the sport and industry, so why choose this path??

Who knows? Tell you one thing, I would pay to see or read her story. Since she hasn't hurt anyone that I know of, I really hope this ends well.

I also really feel bad about the guy in NWD 3 with the hamster wheel who hung himself in a cell a few months ago (Sam something??, was it earlier in this thread- I read it off a canadian site ways back). The drug business is bad period and young readers should learn that. Smoking won't kill you, but at the age of 37, I don't anyone who has benefitted from smoking pot for years. EVERY couple I know who smoked (either behind their spouses back or together) in my philly suburb are divorced. Guess my point is anything in excess is bad, including making drugs an actual part of your lifestyle.

You guys are killing me with the 'industry opportunities' for pro chicks after race careers are over. They pretty much flick the chicks when they are done racing, chicks get no respect as it is, but working in the industry afterwards is a bad joke...which is fine since bike industry jobs pay sh1t...

But don't give me the 'she coulda got a job in the industry' horsesh1t.

I am sorry but the law is the law. If we do not punish people for breaking the law no matter what it is then the whole system would break down.

For now she should be punished for what she did according to the law currently on the books. If later the law is deemed needless and is removed then review the case at that time.

We cannot pick and chose which laws to follow and which ones to not follow.

If you meant what i said about her phys ed "degree", that was purely a hypothetical. But there are indeed opportunities for good physical therapists out there....cycling related or not.

I'm just saying she was trained in SOMETHING that could have paid the bills. She wasn't a victim of the fickle industry.

She had more opportunity in TV, marketing, skiing, and yes, the bike industry than many people. You yourself said she made a million, that IS OPPORTUNITY!! If I earned a million before I had a house and kids, it would go right into a trust for myself.

Money = opportunity.

And even on the "slumming side" she could have been a sales rep or managed a shop. Hell, she could have opened her own shop.

So I stand by what I said, she had a great deal of opportunity. You are just spoiled because you have been exposed to people with the most opportunity ever in the sport. Some of us would settle for much less, just as missy could have.

You know laws are "interpreted" all the time. Bankers, Politicians, Corporations and townships pick what laws to follow and enforce all the time.

If you're all justice, fine, then state you agree with the max penalty the law provides. But don't insult the intelligence of society and act like all laws are enforced fairly and in an absolute manner.
