The HammerSchmidt setup runs on either a 22t or 24t chainring and once the overdrive setup is engaged, it multiplies the base gear by ~1.6 which gives an equivalent 36t if you’re running a 22t or a 38t if you’re running a 24t. So you’ve got the option to have either a 22t/36t setup or a 24t/38t setup.

Wicked cool is right :brows:

More data points:

Weight (as pictured): Just neigh of 27 lbs
SeatStay: 16-5/8"
Wheelbase: 42-5/8"
Thanks for the scoop on the HammerSchmidt

I still think the Schlumpf is a much more attractive option - to me the HS is fugly - but the cost and the whole chamfering the BB have kept me from pulling the trigger. Still, other than the aesthetics of the crankset, that's a beautiful, all-business bike.

OK, here it is with the correct wheels/ tires (I poached the Wolfhounds in an effort to get a ride in before dark the other night) & a 70mm stem instead of the 50mm. I just need a real fork...still leaning towards the U-Turn Reba, but the new 15mm TA Fox looks tempting...if only it had Talas.

Yet another round of data acquisition coming up :D

Just got in a typical wet/ muddy east coast terrain ride & I must say…I LOVE this bike! The HS is really cool….I think I am dialing in a system for the gearing range. I have 21t, 23t & 25t cogs coming (rennen) to play with. The 22f/23r combo is pretty close, but I am curious about the 24f/ 25r combo. A great setup to train your ss legs!!!

The Reba was much nicer & sat up a bit more in its' travel producing more desirable geometry for our local terrain. The slack STA really engages the glutes & hamstrings & I find myself slow-crawling up some steep techy sections SEATED in the lowest gear!

Could you run this bike with rear gears?

Anymore comparisons on the slack HTA and shorter CS to other more XC styled 29ers? There are only a handful of bikes with that type of geometry, one that I'm looking at, and I'm hoping to avoid the twitchy, anti-slack, race oriented variety of most 29ers.

I am currently waiting on delivery of a new rear der. to setup a 2x5/6. Yes, the bike was designed with the option to run gears in mind...complete with cable guides & the extra paragon dropout w/ der. hanger.

The nice thing about the slacker seat tube is when the saddle is down a couple inches, it is right between your knees like a bmx bike for control. Fully extended, it has a nice stretched out cockpit for long seated climbs and slammed to the rails it feels like a trials bike. The slack head angle is probably a personal preference thing....either you prefer slack or steep; I'm of the former persuasion.

This bike continues to deliver fabulously & the Hammerschmidt is (so far) without a hitch.

can i clarify: you went with a 69 deghree head and a 38mm offset reba? and the head angle is non compressed? and liking the ride? any thoughts on slacker angle and more offset?

(im working on somehting similar but with the bigger offset...)

No, actually the 69* HTA is measured at sag and the Reba is the newest model with 46 mm of offset.

ps. loving the ride!

it might be time to get your eyes checked, the first drawing looks to have the exact proportions of the bike in the picture above it and 29" wheels. i think the extreme slope of the top tube is throwing you off. the second drawing has smaller diameter 26" wheels but larger tires, im guessing something surly. im guessing the difference in head tube angles has to do with the need to run a rigid fork with such a wide tire.

...yeah, it will be a bit of a Jekyll & Hyde build ;)
29er trail bike built around the new Reba 140mm & will also accept the new Larry tires built up on a 50mm Speedway rim. Should be a real corker :D We should be firing up a thread in a few weeks....stay tuned!

I'd love to try something like that.

Hell I just upgraded to 28mm wide rims on my SnakeDriver and I can tell it is going to make a world of difference. :thumb:
