Take one of these:

And put in one of these:

With a kit from here: http://converse-engineering.com/

I've been trying to figure out what I want, looking at things like stock 240s, older BMW 3-series (E30 gen), GTI MKII's, etc. But this is the PERFECT car for what I want to do I think. Just need to find a good rolling chassis...

Volvo 240's are bomb proof. Surely there is SOMETHING better than a F@rd sh!tbox you could wedge in there. Hell, a built Volvo plant with serious turbo would be better.

Volvo 240's kick ass, once I get some $$$ I'm definitely doing some shopping at IPD and buying a wrecked 740 turbo for the turbo conversion parts(for some reason that is cheaper than getting the parts from a junk yard out here).

:stupid:

I love the idea of a RWD Volvo wagon with a big ass engine in it, but if you're going to do that, why not do it properly and use something that doesn't suck?

given your fabrication skills....why haven't you bought one?

old radio trucks can be had for 9-12k.
I would love to turn a Volvo C303 or 304 into a camping/adventure truck. I hope there are still some decent ones around when I am able to afford one.

Why all the 5.0 hate? Cheap, easy to find parts for, etc. You can do a Chevy too, would that be better? I don't know too much about big 'merican engines, so any help would be appreciated! I found a 240 that doesn't run for $100 so I think I'll just buy it and part it out if I decide against it. I don't need the engine/tranny anyways.

I'm just not a Ford fan. A buddy of mine built an older 240 with monster turbo setup and it was wicked fast and still got good mpg.

If I was going to do a v8, I'd do an aluminum LS. The brink in the front will kill your handling.

A diesel international scout with some gnarly bumpers and a winch would be my dream vehicle, but I'll never have one.

That sounds ideal. A big american engine like that is going to weigh a ton and fvck up the handling, your gas mileage would suck, they're often not that reliable, and in many instances they're not all that powerful for how enormous they are.

Why would you do that? A lowered XC is a V70. That just has R wheels...without the R motor. What I see is a poser R with ugly plastic trim.
He could of course have done upgrades to the suspension and engine to make it a R but I don't know the story behind the car. I just thought it fitted the original post spirit with a Volvo turned into something else. Haven driven a good amount of miles in the 240 and now a XC70 owner I really do not think they are cars that should be made into performance cars in any way. There are so many much better choice for that.
