the world would stop turning if everyone quit asking what the track was going to be and just showed up thursday ready to hang their balls out.
Says the guy who is staying behind the lens. ;) :D

As for balls, my wife said she'd let me borrow them but only because I said the guy with the cute kitty said I have to hang them out. She laughed and mumbled something about having balls and not helping and never listening to her...I dunno...I wasn't really listening.

All I know is that riding bikes at Sol Vista is freakin sweet and we get to do it for like 5 days straight!!! (if you start on Wed)

i just know that my balls are tiny but i'll still hang them out there.

everyone is so determined to figure out the course... it doesn't matter. it will be something good and it will be the same for everyone in your class so why stress it all week? just show up and race it like you do every other weekend, right?

god forbid a cross country racer would have to not only ride their mountain bike as if it were on a mountain, but ride that bike well.

were that to happen, the rivers would run red with blood and yellow with urine. and a dog would be seen eating cat food in the land.

edit- there are a few xc racers i have a ton of respect for and think they are superb bike handlers. many need to sweep the beach out of their crotch pockets and ride their bikes for a change.

He speaks the truth. I have this conversation with someone every week. Its seems off road cycling has morphed into dirt road biking. Our local XC spots are nothing but go-arounds and straightened turns. Makes me sick. Gongrats to Sol Vista for putting the mountain back in mountain biking.

We camped at Sol Vista last weekend, and they had us on the mountain just over from the Pro jumps. It's $10 to camp and the ground is soft by lumpy. Bring a matress, or maybe a rake :)

I believe the highlighted area is open to camping. I would guess there is a trail that leads down to the camping area, but I have never been on that side of the mountain.

This reminds me of back in like, 94 or 95 and my first contact with mountain biking. Well, mtb racing. I was like 10 or 11 at the time, and I saw (what I found out later was) a xc race on tv. There was a big hullabaloo because there was like a super steep 5 foot chute in the course. The majority of riders was shouldering their bikes and running down it. A couple guys tried to roll it, and endo'd. But there were 2 guys (no idea who) who said "eff this!" and they hucked it! I thought it was some sweet ass sh*t (hey, I was 10 and didn't know drops to flat weren't cool yet).

Seriously. Put some drops back into xc courses. Bunch of nancies.

Every region has some XC guys to laugh at, and some to flat out envy. At Chalk Creek we got to see Mike West finish the Short track, sprint to the top of the 4X cross, and then just kill that course jumps and all. Watching him ride AF's DH course on a Maverick was way cool as well.
I agree, put some drops back into the XC courses, cause then we'll get to watch some people kill it (and watch a few nancies crater )

did i read it wrong or do we have to buy lift tickets on TOP of entry fee???

http://www.solvistanationals.com/event-details/downhill.html

(read the bottom)

yikes... a $65 entry fee and no lift tickets? that's whack... hopefully lift is included during scheduled practice and you need a ticket to freeride/get on lift outside of practice times

if not, that's another $54 for fri, sat, sunday and the track is only open for practice 7 hours total over those three days... $119 for 7 hours of practice over three days is robbery.

a bunch of us just raced a canadian national on the world cup track in MSA for $42 with three day lift ticket included...

yeah i enjoyed the $42 entry fee of bromont and MSA....

this trip is going to cost $$$$$$$

even more shady is the fact that this is not mentioned at all in the online registration process, nor is it under the FAQ (frequently asked questions) portion of the event website

it is buried/hidden at the bottom of the event details for DH... real smooth

and when i sent an email to the contact address on the event website info@solvistanationals.com

i got this response:

"I am out of the office Tuesday, July 14th through Monday, July 20th at USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships in Granby, Colorado. I will be returning on Tuesday, July 21st. If you have any questions about Nationals, come to registration and we will be able to help you out.

Cheers,"

Enjoyed the bonus day today, except for the fact that the courses weren't open. I'm not so sure I would have taken off from work and driven three hours if I knew the course wasn't going to be open.

Oh yea and both courses have big jumps, lots of them.

If there was not a scheduled practice I would not have expected the courses to be open.

The bonus day for riding was just that a bonus day for riding the mountain.

I received the same message when i e-mailed to confirm/vent some anger

Yeah I always hate buying tickets on top of an entry fee, but in this region that is pretty standard, Sol Vista Tickets are usually discounted to $10 a day for practice days. Hopefully race day is included, it usually is.
Edit: Never Mind just saw that on the Event Details. $18/day ouch. I'm glad I have a seasons pass. I feel bad for you out of towners who have no reason to have a pass.

Ya that was hard to find, they must have spent hours trying to figure out how to bury/hide it with only 2 other questions on the page.
What is lame is that it was completely left off the info for online registration as well as the FAQ section of the website... The FAQ section has all the questions from the DH section cut/paste in except that one and it is replaced with one that says "how did we get so cool"

I like how they added "time to think about buying a season pass" in there as well... Real smooth
