I ride Fat Lip & The Jack all the time. Especially Twist to The Jack to Domboo to ToM (or into lower Ripper)...maybe the best run on the mtn. A couple weeks back, Jack & I rode some of the old stuff and cleared out some trees that fell. They need some work but are still alive. All the newbs complain about the tech trails, but they used to be race courses in 99/00! Utah, Slayer, old Triple Drop, Dirt Merch all were raced on then.

I wouldn't mind having a race go down slayer.

Remember when there was a dirt jump park at the base. It was crappy.
Or when there wasn't a hotel in the parking lot.
Or when the Diablo office was in the hot, gross tent.

If you didn't ride the pirate lines they wouldn't block them off. Yar.

Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't fat lip just cut off, and then back in (like within 50 ft)?
Yes, but it should be called "rip your arm open on pricker bushes". I've never gotten a fat lip on that trail but my arm looks like I fought a tiger after I ride it.

Remember after the Jack there used to be a ladder up onto a boulder and then a ladder off to the 3-4' drop.

Also, I remember after the cheese wedges after you crossed the little bridge someone put up a rock that would let you jump over the pipe.

I was so stoked the first time I hit that drop...

YEAH!! That was the first drop bigger than a foot or two I ever hit. Followed Gumby off it thinking it was a roller......on my 130mm Enduro...Nice. Shame it's not there any more.

Grip rock is the rock on Upper Breakout that's now ramped w/dirt on the entrance and exit. The trail used to be a little smoother than Lower Breakout, but not as smooth as it is now. You'd see this rock that just stood there and go around it. Only the advanced riders would "hit it". You'd really slam the front of the bike into it and suck it up. Now it's dirt on both sides and makes a lame ramp. EC

It's 1:07 on the second video.

My understanding was that there was some sort of falling out, that may or may not be true.

What IS true is that Chase's home mountain is now Highland. Or at least he lists them among his sponsors.

Now I would had thought Aaron and Jeff owed a piece of Diablo. As well I notices that PJ is no longer around and riding a Cove. Too bad some things have to change.

Remember when they had a race in 99' and the night before all of the buildings burnt to the ground......

...
and it rained the night before....................

Remmebr when they use to let hang out in the far lot (skiers right) for the races. We were even allowed to camp there!

Lower Alpine was a switchback to the cheese wedges after the tabletop. No progression drops or Sram berm.

Ripper, Utah, and Slayer the other day. Good stuff! I'm not a hucker/racer type, but just like chunky trails. Those kicked ass - me likey picking some lines and not just plowing through ****.

Only been twice so far, but some of the other "chunky" trails are on my list to check out next trip.

Anyone remember Captain America? Karpiel frame and an MX fork converted over. Azonic Love Seat and Hayes Mags too. The bike was all red, whit and blue. He had stars in between the spokes on the rim.
