For everyone worried about the lift ticket pricing, here is some info. The regular cost is $25.00 for riding from 10:00 to 5:00 PM. For all the days from Thursday through Sunday the lift is open from 8:00 to 5:00, so it is a couple hours longer ride time, and it is $15.00. Aside from your scheduled practice times, that's a lot of available riding time. Yes, paying on top of entry fees sucks, but we are trying to stay open as long as possible to make it worth your while. We appreciate everyone's support, and understand the issues in different races (such as ticket prices), we are racers ourselves. That's one reason we are trying so hard to make new, interesting courses, and give everyone the best experience we can.
At first, I thought it was BS that you had to buy a lift ticket every day.

But then I saw the price and I knew this has to be discounted, which it is.

Yes, it would be great if the entry fee was $5, 1st prize is $100,000, and each chairlift had a frozen yogurt dispenser. But as long as the resort is not gouging the riders, it is hard to complain.

i think people missunderstand what the issue is/was with this event...

it is NOT the cost of the event. good events cost money, and tis one should be an awesome time.

it is the fact that the costs were not upfront, never mentioned during reg process, and to almost all (at least the 20+ riders I have spoken too) completely unknown until on site.

maybe a simple oversight... maybe not... but either way promoters need to advertise the total cost of their events UP FRONT.

it is far better to lay the cost out there and explain why than to have to justify it after the fact.

it is good to see that they have now made race day free.

Well, it is on the main DH page: http://www.solvistanationals.com/event-details/downhill.html.

I don't know when they stuck it on there, since I just looked for the first time today.

You know everyone, including me, assumed the race fee included free lift tickets.

I just don't think this is the kind of chicken-*** tactics like $10 parking at Mt Snow. It seems reasonable to charge for every expense in our current economy, but as long as there is no gouging, it is hard to complain.

It wasn't on the page until 3 days ago. I asked in this thread 2 weeks ago and no one responded.

So are you still in vermont? or have you made it to DIA?
never got off the ground in VT, electrical fire in cockpit/instrument panel sealed the deal there... missed connection in JFK, no more flights out tonight... doing it all over again tomorrow at 5am. will be at sol vista by noon, but pro's only get three hours of practice from 8am to 11am despite having our own track.

good thing for that whooping 2 hours on saturday, hahah

Where the riding is good
Whine whine whine. Moan moan moan.  .

Give it up. The schedule change was a good thing. Now the Cat 1 guys and Pros aren't mixed during practice which means shorter lift lines. You still get your three hours.

VooDooMama - You're not even here and you're complaining?!? The courses are both dope. :thumb:

Just thought people that don't read the nationals website every 5 minutes (yes I am bored at work) would like to know.

The 4x track is pretty good. The last straight with all the big jumps is the most fun!! It's basically Angel Fire 4x last straight reincarnated. I hate the 1st gayest 4x track obstacle ever, the uphill whoop dee doo (stair step) thing in the 2nd straight and the 2nd gayest 4x track obstacle ever, The "Dragon Spine". It's a gnar course and so much fun for the most part.

mtx and pro dh video from yesterday. jumps are well-built and safe. if MANY riders made it through all three pro jumps their first time through, that should be a good indication that they are properly built. there are go-arounds for every big obstacle. it is the rider's decision whether or not they go...no more, no less.

additionally, if you were at the rider's meeting last night (which was scheduled and available to everyone), you would have learned the following:

- practice times were altered for today, friday (as already posted)
- that cat 2-4 DH courses will not be hitting the big gap jumps any longer. (so no more, plopping off of thunderhuck to flat or rolling through lipskidder)
- USAC reserves the right, with rider input, to close the pro dh jumps if wind is a factor on race day.

safety is a priority, but so is pushing our sport for the people who want to excel and push it to the next level. if you don't like any of the decisions above, you could have gone to the rider's meeting and joined the 100 other people who had input on these decisions with the race officials.

and i'll say it again, it is the rider's decision to choose what they ride or jump.

So are both of the gaps on Buc Nasty closed for CAT 2 now? I dropped them to flat last year at the G3 (*shakes head in shame*) but I was getting mentally ready to man-up and hit them tomorrow.

And I know better than to get near Lip Skidder...

I guess if I'm getting to that level I'll be racing CAT 1 next year. I'm not complaining, I'm just saying that I realize if I want to hit those in a race run its time for CAT 1.

As I said before, remember MSA jump 2003, lots of crashes and J Waddel in coma for weeks....not necessary to put a jump that big.
No, its not necessary. But its totally awesome. Every image and video I've seen of them indicates that they are designed and built extremely well. And as spomer has reiterated many times now, THERE ARE GO AROUNDS. And it seems as if riders are clearing them.

i still think they're lame and unneccesary at a race that doesn't have a monster payout and dumb in general for racing. Pro motocross has never had a "go around" on a single track ever. I can hear it now:

Jimbo Bobo - "Stewart comes into the turn and his engine bogs...what now?"
Ricky Retardo commentator - "Well Jimbo, he's going to need to GO AROUND the jump...no rolling it ya fairy!"

Jimbo Bobo - "Ha hah hah! Good one Rick!"

bizutch, find me a race that does have a "monster" payout :D
The Paris Mt DH Race here in Greenville SC Oct 17th. Not "Monster", but will be a bigger Pro Payout than the National Champs.

You are starting to see more smaller DH races with bigger payouts than the Big National races. The thing is no one makes any $$$ for putting our race on. Its all Vollenteer!!!!! We give the $$ back to the Racers and then the rest goes into the Local Trails here. Its all about helping the sport out and its Riders!!!

I may not be racing anymore, but I will still find time to help the sport and its racers out!!!!

Cecil:cheers:
