Was out at Timberline in WV all weekend building Fri-Sun. Got the OK from the bike park manager as well as the owner of the mountain to build whatever I want. There is going to be a ton of stuff built before the end of the season. Some of you may not be aware of the details on Timberline. Here is a quick rundown of the operation so you get an idea of what they are about....(THE RIDER) that is what they are about. And when I say the rider I mean they want to cater to the beginners (which there are already trails built for) to the most seasoned riders (trails are built also and more being built every week) The mountain is privately owned so no corporate hoops to jump through. If you come up and you see a line that would be cool to build come find me (hot pink turner DHR wont be hard to miss) and I will stop riding or finish building what I got and go help you work on your line.

Atmosphere is well-spectacular, think Platty, only without the bottlerockets...there is a cool bar right there at the bottom of the lift along with the restraunt that is not expensive like some other local resorts. You can camp in the parking lot. The people genuinly want you to be there, not too make money ( the owner really doesnt care about making a lot of money) To give you an idea how laid back the place is, i worked all weekend and at 5:30pm yesterday finally stop working to get a run in. The lift was closing as I was getting to it. I asked the bike park manager if I could get a run or two in really quick. They kept the lift open for another hour or so just so myself and a couple others could ride a little more.

If you have any questions just ask me and If I dont know the answer I will find it out.
JUST TO BE CLEAR I AM NOT AN EMPLOYEE JUST A VOLUNTEER THAT IS SUPER EXCITED TO FINALLY HAVE A MOUNTAIN WITH THE RIGHT MANAGEMENT DIRECTION IN THE MID ATLANTIC.

Here are two photos of what some of the stuff I got built this weekend.

The first pic is a high speed (think mach 3) drop. It was measured by tape measure at a minimum drop of 9 1/2 ft to 11 1/2 ft to where you want to land, and the gap from the edge of the drop to the spot where you want to land is exactly 30 feet.

The second pic is a small drop built for the beginners/sport guys but is still super fun at close to race speed due to the line you have to take and the way it sends you. It is measured at 4 (wheelie dropping) to 6 ft (to where you want to land) and the gap is anywhere from 4 ft (to flat) to 16 ft where you want to land.

More will be built this wednesday through sunday. The lifts are operating Wednesday through Sunday all day. Mention that you saw this on Ridemonkey and they may hook you up with a discount on your lift ticket. (which are pretty cheap as it is, less than any other mountain in the mid atlantic) If anyone wants to help me build let me know just pm me. Also the mountain is about 45min to an hour shorter of a drive from DC than snowshoe just to give you a referance time wise.
Thanks,
Adam

just built a new trail today that is super fun, it is a tight flowy, trail with loose loamy drifty turns up top, then goes into a super steep section, then back to rocky fun downhill, whole trail pinned will easily be a 5+ min trail. Come check it out this weekend. Lift is running all day Fri-Sun with live bands playing (motorcycle rally up there this weekend). It is def. worth the trip.

You guys open thunderbolt or cut something completely new? I spent a week building there last year love how it's more like trail archeology of sufferfest races of past. Lets see some action shots off that wood.

A completely new trail was built with more to come this weekend, as for the action shots, just set up my turner for the drop (stiffer spring) so I will be deflowering it on Sat. morning, have a photog buddy of mine coming also to ride and shoot some action shots of the drop. Although I am thinking I may want to make it about a foot taller, although I wont know until I hit it as is. Goal is to put it in the new DH race course I am getting ready to build. I want racers to be able to hit it wide open without having to slow down at all. In that section you will be around 27-30mph when you hit it. So if I overshoot it sat. it will get built bigger. You should come up this weekend and ride and dig. Remember build for a few hours and you ride fo' free for the day!

What? Nobody wants a free beer? Come on guys if we got 15-20 people up there building for 6 hours we could have 4 new trails built in one day! Where else are you going to be invited to build whatever line you can think up (within reason :) )

Hit the big gap about 5 hours ago, hit it twice second time we measured the actual drop and length, ended up being a 13 1/2ft drop and 33 ft out! Pics to come soon!

Adam hit that wood at 20mph plus and flew! I was there, it is big. My son and the novice riders are going off the smaller drop, very nice.

Two new (top to bottom) trails are open on the West side, this makes for a L O N G R U N, with a very easy pedal back. Steep, rocky, flowing and fun.

Crazy new trail is being built; eight guys a chain saw with fresh ideas make for a far out trail feature. Huge eight foot tall rock island with natural log bridge and a drop or roll line off it. Crazy what can be done with the right people. There are pics comming I think.

This new group for people comming up the Tline is transforming the area. We are also building flowing new trails added to what we had last year. Things really are looking good and getting great! Thanks to all who help.

Until snow making stops us. Don't wait till then.

Free timed runs are comming soon. We have wireless timing, it gives us top to bottom timing on the west side, nice.

it sounds like you guys are making some great progress. how late in the season will you be open until?
Will
You should come up ride and build we could use the help. We will be up there pretty much every weekend as well as most wednesdays. You would have free reign to build what you want with access to bobcats (skid steer) loaders, dump truck etc. We also have two people who are excellent at running the equipment and can do whatever you want them to with it.

i'll try to make a trip out there when i get back from BC. i'm leaving for florida this friday and when i get back from that trip, i'm in BC for a 2 week trip. i'm sure that will give us a lot of building ideas to bring back.

i will be in touch and will hopefully plan a trip out to timberline sometime in late august or september.
