I'm a simple kinda guy. If it's dry or just a bit slippy, I run highrollers (2.35). If it's really slippy, I put wetscreams (2.2) on. If it's 6" deep mud I put mud3s on.

Might try an extra tyre - Minion DHF or Ardents?

If you have never ridden a set of DHF's do yourself a favor and give them a try. I hear good things about the Ardents but tomorrow will be my first day running one.

My next tyre to try (in UK conditions) is a 2.4 Muddy Mary. I reckon it's just the ticket for "in between" conditions which we get a lot of.
I am in the UK too but so far I could not find Muddy Marry UST tyres. I am thinking getting a set from Germany :thumb:

Kenda Excavator---EC's signature tire...
Looking at those too.

I hear they hook up in corners great but also roll fast as hell and excavate good when braking.

Looks like some good potential for modding the block profile on them too.

I agree with DW though. If you don't plan on pedaling up anything, nothing really beats the all around verastiity of the DHF minion (front and back). Not the strongest for braking, nor the MOST edge hold in some cases, but I'll be damned if they aren't the most predictable tire ever made. Tapping the rear brake at 40 mph to initiate a little drift is no issue at all, total control and confidence. Other tires might be more grippy, but way less predictable.

I was running Minion single ply (f) with a High roller rear when I was living in the UK. Good combo but that high roller lost so much rubber every ride:think: Maybe it would be different for DH only but I was clocking 15-20Km round trips. Now in Korea I am trying Minion (F) front and back as there is more pushing than riding here due to verticalness of the terrain. I also have a set of Big Bettys on another wheelset and for dry they are great. They are lighter than the minions and have excellent sidewalls considering they are not 2 ply. They seem really durable, little ware even riding some tarmac. People say the BB holds in intermediate conditions but I find mine choke up really easily. Its a big volume tyre so watch for clearance issues. I do like both but happy to be back on minions.

I really liked the Conti Rubber Queens, but had to give them up because they didn't fit my new frame(Banshee Rampant). Gripped well, even on wet roots and rolled fairly fast. They're a high volume tyre and are fairly big, they were almost a 2.6, even though they're labelled as 2.4 tyres.

Anyone had some sweet time on Conti's new tyres? Rain king seems like an awsome all-around loose tyre and Kaiser as a good challanger for the Minions?
I raced on the Continental Der Kaiser for national champs in Sol Vista. I must say that coming off of Minion DHF's front and rear for years, I was quite impressed, cornering ability and confidence over rocks was there for sure. At 1035gms they are significantly lighter (with a 3 ply sidewall none the less)

The rubber that they use is also very impressive I was going to save these to use for races only but after the fight I had to get them mounted I left them on, that being said I have put a couple shuttle days in on them and they barely show any signs of wear, but still feel very soft to the touch and pliable

My only potential gripe with them is the overall width, as someone mentioned above they run a bit big, the 2.5 they are labeled as is actually closer to a 2.7 which does not help with rolling resistance per se. overall I am pretty impressed with them, very predictable and driftable, without being squirmy or flimsy feeling like the older Contis seemed to be.

Sorry if it sounded a bit long-winded but I was trying to cover my overall impression of the tire. I also only have time on them in dusty/ rocky conditions. I will post a full report once I get some time in some different conditions with them. Pm me if you have a question.
