Perfect tires... finally

I've been searching for the perfect tire for a long time. Wanted something that was good and fast like an XC tire but handles like an all mountain/trail tire. I think I finally found it... Tinker Juarez's tire, the Kenda Dred Tred... Feels very similar to my old Nevegals which were perfect except they didn't roll very fast and they were a bit heavy. These roll great and are lighter. Same compound as the Nevegals too.

i disagree, i feel the 2.1 Kenda DTC nevegal tires i have are quite capable on rocks, roots and in the wet. That is predominantly the terrain i ride them in, i live in the northeast after all...

Nevegal in the front, small block 8 in the back.

The problem with nevegals in the back is that they shed knobs too quickly.

Always DTC. Great on rocks and roots, wouldn't know what these "wet conditions" are that people talk about.

Biggest oxymoron in mountain biking right there. Kenda and perfect should never be in the same sentence unless you are saying that the perfect fire starter is a kenda tire.

I also run a small block on the back. But i'm getting ready to change it up. The small block 8 doesn't grip the loose dirt and rocks we have out here. If we had more trails that were hard packed, it would be great. But out here it's a little bit unpredictable. It breaks traction when I'm flying downhill and have to hit the brakes. It also drifts a little here and there. I would almost rather run a skatepark tire or a race slick on the back just because I know it would break loose and have less traction all the time instead of just half of the time.

Kenda DTC sucks on rocks and roots, and when it's wet - hope you like walking...
Totally disagree snagged a pair of Blue Grooves with the Stick-E when they first came out. They were so great on the rocks here that I have only had 1 non kenda tire since then. 2 Pairs or BG's, 2 pair of Nevegals, and now the DredTreds. Grippiest compound I have ever used. Maxxis rubber being a close second.

i hope you didn't order them from Nashbar.
No.... LBS carries all Kenda signature series tires.

Kenda + Perfect in the same sentence is as rare as seeing a striped giraffe wearing combat boots dogpaddling in the middle of the ocean.
I have owned more Kenda tires than anything else. Probably 6-7 pair over the years. No problems to speak of. What has happened to you?

Conti's Black Chili or whatever is grippier for sure, but wears like it's made out of pencil erasers. Same for whatever Schwalbe calls their really soft rubber.

Dancin' over rocks n' roots!
I run Kenda tires as well (switched from Maxxis a few years back). Primarily the Blue Groove UST and Nevegal UST but I also have their road tires and a variety of other XC tires too. I personally haven't had problems. I loved the Kinetics in Stick-E and had a tread separation issue which Kenda promptly resolved (sent me a new pair) but they don't have that particular tire anymore so I moved to the Blue Grooves & Nevegals. No complaints here.

I will give Golgi a week before he tears a sidewall, then bitches on RM about how whatever Mail order place he ordered it from wont give him a free replacement.
I have never torn a Kenda tire. I have, however, torn a Panaracer and a Continental. Not sure how the Panaracer tear happened, but the continental was my fault I tried to thread through this sharp ass rock and it hit the tire just right. About 2 miles later my tire had a hemorrhoid.

Compared to other options on the market, they suck. Even Nevegals / Kinetics with Stick-e compound are a lot grippier than anything with DTC.

What has happened to you?

Kenda sidewalls are thin as hell, and the tread wears down very fast.

Try a Specialized Clutch DH if you want a tire that is grippy.

tires can be very rider specific...for a long time I swore by Maxxis then Intense now it's Kenda...you just have to find the tire that works best for your riding style....I mean if one brand was really the best then we would all be riding the same tires....D

Try a WTB Mutanoraptor 2.2. on the back. That tire kicks ass on the back for long SoCal rides, and the bead is actually somewhat round, unlike a Kenda :)

Tucson, beatch!
I haven't done a lot of tire comparing but I've been running Kenda UST tires for a couple years now and never had an issue. Only reason I've replaced them is becauswe I wore them out. Loved the Kinetics but they stopped making them... switched to the Nevegals and liked their traction but they wore out too quickly, and am now running Karma USTs. I DO wish they made them in a 2.3, though.

DH tires handle great, but they are also really heavy. Anything past 700g is too freaking heavy, IMHO I climb too much.

What drew me to these is (1) they are reasonably light, light enough for XC racing, (2) they roll quite well, as good or better than most XC race tires and (3) they grip at least as well as a good trail tire like the nevegal.

That makes it a great tire for me.

I am guessing you didnt catch the Humor.

Check it out. I have torn everything from Maxxis, Kenda, WTB, Tioga, Speccy, Panaracer.....Litterally everything. There is always a jagged rock somewhere you catch, never think your tires are indestructable.

kenda is the way to go. I hate maxxis. Maxxis tires are like designers clothes, they cost a lot and they don't do anything special or different. I heart kenda tires. Small block eights are amazing, so are telonix.
