Hey everyone? Was at Diablo a couple weeks ago and was super impressed with everything there. The resort was a ton of fun and very nicely sculpted. Big props to the trail crew!!! I just have one question... one of my favorite things to do are really big step-ups. Does Diablo not have any (>5ft) from lip to lip? I looked and am going back again this weekend, so will be on the lookout if anyone knows of any.

If they don't have any... why not? and when they build the whoops, can they build a step-up somewhere too?

If you are at the top of alpine (the trail with the wallrides under the lift) just continue down the fire road and you will see it on your right.

Theres that big roller step up on that side of Crap Chute, and a smaller more tech one you have to put in turn work for right on the other side, get to it via Asylum I believe.

Yep. The step-up above Crap-Chute is a good size. You can haul the mail into that bad-boy witout OJ-ing! (over jumping) The other small tech one is a little harder to find and harder to clean. Good Fun! Ever ride at Plattekill?

nope. not yet. just moved out here (maryland) from out west a year ago and so am slowly making my rounds to the good riding spots. plattekill is def on the list though. why? they have good stuff?

if any trailcrews are listening, a ladder kicker like two-three feet high up onto a bridge into a drop would be freakin sweet.

like demo said... six inches. for clarification, what i mean is a three foot kicker with 5ft lip to lip and the bridge say oh... seven or eight feet off the ground. then into a drop onto dirt tranny about the size of the drop at the base of the mountain (dont know its name...) as far as feasibility... i dont know. i dont have any experience in stunt building so i dont know how steep or high the kicker would have to be, but i have ridden something similar to what i described and it was sooo much fun. you could hit it all day. there is nothing quite like the feeling of hitting a jump, stalling at the peak of your ascent and then touching down as if you hadnt left the ground...:thumb:

If one could negative rep another, I would negative rep you...

Anyways, yea it would be sick if they had a "ladle" type jump. You jump in, you jump out. 8 feet off the ground? The "ladle" would be 15 feet long. And after the landing there would be a wooden kicker.

Sounds like a lot of fun, but little to maintain once it is built....

With things like that, you would here all kinds of people saying things like:
Did you see the "ladle" at diablo. Just like people talk about those wall rides.

There used to be a lil roller step up to the right after you drop RTN, but its overgrown, undercared for, and the run in is often a muddy speed scrubber

It depends on what you mean by "good stuff." It's not like Diablo. The riding there is based around natural terrain, steep singletrack, big drops, and some man-made berms and wood features thrown in the mix. It is a must-see that represents some of the best east-coast DH-ing. Bring the big-rig if you go to Platty. They do have a nice DS course as well. I used to live in Mammoth....where are you from out west?

from Park City, UT. grew up riding deer valley and the trails in the foothills surrounding slc. and by good stuff, i mean it all. i just like really well thought out trails that have alot of variety. one of the reasons that diablo is my favorite place thusfar on the east coast. you can go from slopestyle to tech DH on one mountain. i think my favorite trails for each discipline are tempest (with Anthem) into waterboy and then upper dominion into lower dominion into salvation into crap chute into indy x.
