Seriously, that $hit was a marathon run. I was trippin on how long you were shredding. You pulled countless bangers though. I knew you had the skillz, but that $hit was rediculous. Can you still pull all that same stuff but on dirt?
That 540 was sick.

i was there......! i used to get so psyched on those comps; AFA comps may have seemed lame later, but it was literally the only time you would meet up with other riders--there were no skateparks/bikeparks, 9th street wasn't built yet, and there was no internet. very few videos. then you would wait months for the comp to show up in magazines.... kinda weird to think about.

rad riding, joel. sick 540 for sure !

edit: actually in 1989, Lone Star skatepark may have still been open in north austin. it was a vert ramp in a field, with a mini ramp next to it. that closed and a year or so later, Power Plant skatepark opened in a warehouse in south austin. Dillo skatepark was open briefly circa 1988 as well. i was 14/15 then so, i couldnt drive to those spots....

i have some footage i filmed from 1990. joel did you go to the Aquafest contest, summer 1990, that was organized by James Shepard, Dave Parrick, Kevin Martin etc. ?

Joel - awesome stuff. Thanks for sharing that golden piece. Real smooth riding - looking like Blyther's airs - which are the nicest looking ramp airs in history. Tons of rad sh!t in there too - was that a turndown on the far ramp towards the end?

it's amazing how far bmx has come in 20 years. sick though.
yeah, it took 20 years to come right back to where it started - neon colors, zebra print shirts and tight pants. Blasted one footed inverts have always been there and so have 540s. Hammer pads and Chicago bars fell off somewhere along the line. I wouldn't mind seeing cherrypicker drop-ins to start happening again although I have a feeling some of the tailwhip kids might have a tough time getting them.

That was awesome! Lets put the ramps and opposite ends of the warehouse for maximun pedability! So tiring
And that mullet; soccer rocker for sure

Thanks dude :)

I just (kinda) learned tuck no-hander 3's on my full squish. I can spin like a top, but I'm getting older so I'm not as ready to huck it over dub's (unless it's a contest... for the glory) :)

Other than that, I'm getting more into building/digging/mentoring.

Hey Zach, not sure what's in the water up there, but A.T.,watts, t-mac, cmc, goldman, etc... such a really cool group of guys. I rode a few events with those dudes this year and they are the best. I mean, down to earth dudes who get it. The nor-cal group represents proper.
