It sure will. The fact that we are holding the 5 K DH one week earlier this year will make a couple things much better.

* Way easy to get Bike n Stay packages (from $59.00 including room, lift pass and 1 motel is even offering a breakfast too)
* No lift lines caused by tourists that are only sightseeing.

Trying to get a couple of speed guns for the fastest clocked speed of the day. I want 2 of them for both speed sections. Not sure which speed section is faster (the one up top or the smooth one near the bottom of the course?). We will find out.

The Bike n Stay deals are like the price of a room that you shopped around for, with a free lift ticket. The registration fee is a few dollars less than last year too ($25.00 instead of $28.00).

I like Whiteface, racing and lodging is going to cost about the same as racing at a couple mountains. That is awesome, thanks man.

"They" must be ORDA. The Olympic Regional Development Authority owns Whiteface Mountain. ORDA was created by New York State just after the 1980 Winter Olympics to run and operate all venues used in the Olympics. ORDA puts on 4 to 5 World Cup Events each winter. http://www.orda.org/newsite/index.php
Elias and I operate the bike park as a private business.
Here's a couple of pictures of Elias from yesterdays photo shoot.

8-11-09 Update:

The Dual Slalom on Saturday August 29 will start at 2:30. The ds will be timed by All Sports Events complete with split times & finish line clock.

Saturday the downhill will be open for practice from 10:00 am till 4:00 pm. Depending on how many register we would like to have specific times that pros, cat 1, 2 and 3 can practice. Still to be determined.

Sunday August 30 all pro men and the combined pro women/cat 1 will get 1 seeding run to determine their start time. The gondola will open 1/2 hour early at 9:30 for pro men and the pro women/cat 1 only.

9:30 am: gondola opens for all pro men and the pro women/cat 1
10:00 am: pros will be released at 30 second increments
11:00 am: open practice
12:30 pm: practice closes
1:00 pm: downhill race starts in this order: cat 1 10-18, cat 1 19-29, cat 1 30-39, cat 1 40+, then cat 2 in the same order followed by open women cat 2/3 & the hardtail class. We will finish with the pros.
3:30 PM: Open chainless downhill ( all racers will get a 2nd number and be released in 30 second increments).

For the main dh event all amateurs categories will be released at 30 second increments. All pros will be released in 45 second increments.

Okay so the 5 K DH is finally the next race on both the Pro Gravity Tour and the Gravity East Series.
We have just a couple of more things to finalize and all will be reported on this thread.

We have been receiving many emails, online registration is doing well (open chainless and open hardtail category too) and we will be ready to put on a great show.

For teams and tech vehicles we will have a killer deal for weekend parking in our tech/expo area. Our web site will be updated later today with that information.

If you have any questions or concerns just ask me here.

See ya at the race

Mike, what hotels are running the room deals?? You've stated (I think on this website) that there are 5 (maybe more) Hotels/Motels that are running bike & stay packages, but I can only find 3 listed on your website?

Looking forward to the race. We'll have Wachusett Brews on hand so come swing by if you get a chance.

Please note when pre registering that you have a choice to buy your lift ticket on the registration. For those doing a Bike n Stay your lift ticket will automatically be included so no need to buy it online or at the mountain. Bike n Stay deals are awesome this year.

Mike, Withe the length of the course anded to the gondola time I would leave practice open as in past years. In a 2 hour block and a flat half way down you'd never have time to get a run in. I don't believe combined practice times have ever been an issue.

The race trail is open every day to ride. weekends, weekdays. what are you waiting for. Many have been riding the course all season. I took a super casual run down the course yesterday at the end of day. 14 minutes. I think I could do it in 10 or 11 minutes if I really try? Course is very dry right now.

We will most likely have open practice as usual on Saturday. I do want to wait to see how many pros register.

Pre registration helps out big time. If your planning on racing please pre register. You save a few bucks and will breeze right though any lines. New plan for registration this year that will be awesome for those that pre register.

Gotta go now as we have our series final for our dual slalom series this afternoon.

See ya at The Face

We will have 3 registration desks this year instead of 1.
Note. This is our regular ticket booth where we always did registration in the past.
This register will be just for pre registration packet pick up. This line will be capable of cash or credit card payment for those pre registered that still need a lift ticket, or have to pay for the 1 day license, annual license etc.

20 feet away is the Ski School Desk. This will give us 2 additional registers for on site registration. 1 line for cash and 1 line for credit card.

If anyone can help course marshal (we will have a total of 27 course marshals+) please let us know if you can help. We have hired 12 of Whiteface's ski patrollers for course marshals, but we still need up to 15 volunteers. One job will be recording the fastest speeds with our speed gun.

Since we are having the pro seeding run all course marshals must be at the pre race course marshal meeting at 7:45 am on Sunday. Course marshals will be placed between 8:45 and 9:30 am.

No, I could have misread but i thought it said that Cat 1 will be doing seeding too.
Edit: I did misread :( (Pro/Cat1 Women)
Not sure how I feel about seeding runs, I am not a pro so maybe a pro will give there feelings on this. Having to qualify is one thing, but a seeding run seems like a waste of time if everyone "qualifies". I see how it adds to the excitement of waiting for the faster riders, but is it worth it to push it if you know you are going to have a race run a short time later. Maybe a qualifier on Saturday would be better, especially with a long course like Whiteface.

Sorry, I am at work and have nothing better to do but rant.

I see it as if the weather is going to turn bad then you sand baq it and get to go earlier in the day, i.e. Sam Hill in Andorra was it a few years ago?

I like it as a photographer because the pros are coming down once more in an order and I can get one more of each.

We had to keep the exact same classes as all other Gravity East races so points could be figured accurately. The Pro Women is combined with the Women Category 1. So only pros and cat 1 women will get a seeding run. If their were tons of cat 1 women it would not be fair to the cat 1 men, but the pro women and cat 1 women combined has only totaled 10 or so in all other races.

Ryan are you camping ??
Just a reminder: At Whiteface there is no camping in the parking lots. However, there are 3 campgrounds within 2 miles of Whiteface. 1 is just 100 yards from the entrance.

For camping and hotels in Wilmington click HERE
(Wilmington is the town Whiteface Mountain is located in)

For camping and hotels in Lake Placid click HERE
(Lake Placid is the larger of the 2 towns and is only 8 miles away)

We are getting many calls asking us if we are open this week and when you can ride the course.

We are open 7 days a week and you can ride the course now. We will start marking the course today but it's easy to follow without the tape.
