Ok so trials is not for me...well atleast not having ONLY a full out trials bike...I need/want a more broad use bike. I dont have a lot of money, looking to spend under a grand ideally 500ish area  I kno im a broke ass bitch lol

I need a bike I can pedal up hill on and use for general trail riding but can handle drops and jumps...kinda of a jack of all trades I guess FR/DJ/SS as well as get around the woods.

the choices in my head right now are:
-Specialized P.1 All Mountain
-Giant STP2 (assuming I can get a 2...the other models are well out my range)

Any other suggestions would be appreciated

If possible I would have loved to get a Evil Imperial or a Sluggo...its a damn shame they stopped making them.

look at an Identiti Dr. Jekyll. they take a beating.
there is also the Sinister Ridge a buddy of my rocked one at Diablo for several seasons and it held up great.

the 2 bikes you are looking at have low bb height so fr may be a little difficult

Why would you want the AM version of the P.1?

Either a P.1 or an STP is a good all around bike. Personally, I'm partial to the P.1 (I like the geo).

If your broke I suggest whichever costs less.

Also, who cares if the bb is low? At least it will corner like a champ. Just make sure it has 165 cranks.

If you ride serious rock gardens or really gnarl trails you will care about a low bb. Especially when you are smacking your bashguard or chainguide on everything

Yah, but remember, this is a hardtail. Any rockgarden or trail that burly is gonna suck on a HT any way.

You might as well get a bike that will handle well in SS and DJ situations as well.

Also it's a HT so at least the bb's not getting any lower!

im in Rochester NY...its hard to find gnarly **** out here like you guys probally have...

I was looking at the AM due to price and P.1 seems more park oriented than trails...if I could find a P.1 for the same price as the AM ide take it though. I got to sit on a AM today...I like the general feel of the bike except the forks they feel soft as hell and my fat ass could make them bottom out (190ish)

And as far as the STP goes the only local dealer no longer carries Giant...and Giant has stopped making a STP2 which was ideal as far as inital set-up and price went...

Anyone kno where I could find a Evil Imperial at?

Ive had zero luck finding one...

I just thought of a better way to despribe what I want...I guess I want an all mountain hardtail built as tough as a DJ...

Im starting to wonder if I should just get a 16"-17" DJer...sure as hell cheaper...

Personally I would just get a DJ bike. An AM bike will not feel nearly as good on jumps and berms. I would also rather ride a DJ hardtail on the trails than an "all mountian" HT. All mountain hardtails seem to be designed as heavy, durable XC bikes, this makes them suck.

If you want an Evil they are releasing a new DJ bike soon methinks.

SKA Tod might be available to help with Evil questions.

Not to mention the Transition Trail or Park (TOP), good quality in the line of the other jump bikes you were considering. I think the Bottlerocket sounds like your kind of bike for all around.

I guess the main point here is check out Transition. The P1AM is a pretty tough bike, but the spec isn't great. I think you'd outgrow it pretty fast. If you went with more of a jump oriented bike or FS trail bike then you're looking at something you can keep around longer. You won't outlast the usefulness of having a jump bike, they're really fun to play on. And you will get more use out of a FS trail bike (like the bottlerocket) because it's more fun to ride than a hardtail when the trail gets gnar.

Not too shabby. Pretty solid looking spec. If the price is right go for it!

Sounds like a good option, especially if he gives you a good deal. Make sure you are comfortable with him though. He is not a big dealer with a CS department so be careful. Ask questions before you buy.

Is he gonna replace your frame if it snaps?

When he paints it is he gonna take the time to face all the HT and BB?

etc.
