The wife is headed to Philadelphia for a conference. She is staying at the University of Pennsylvania.

Anything exciting within walking distance?

What about Fairmount Park area?

I  Philly

Get some soft pretzles

go to a phillies game

don't go to south street except for the fact that the best cheese steaks are to be had there at Jim's. Way better than pat's or Geno's.

liberty bell

the Italian market

the art museum

I don't think any of the above are within walking distance.

Make sure you check out the Richards Medical Research Building at U-Penn. It was designed by Louis Kahn.

Eat cheesesteak, hoggies, and pretzels bought from random guys with shopping carts.
IMO, the best cheesesteaks come from the surrounding smaller towns. I know I could get a better steak in Reading than I ever had in Philly.
Edit: I got a hankering for a good V&S Sausage sammy right now....

Pat's Steaks are the original and still the best noooob.
But when you have a buzz on the girls hanging out near Pats are effin skanky as compared to The Italian princess's from the neighborhood that hang out by Genos. Pats is a car show late at night and the chances of getting your ass beat for no good reason at Pats far exceeds any risk I am willing to take for a cheesesteak. I admit the Cheesewiz is sharper at Pats.

I once ate a whole bunch of mushrooms during a show at the Electric Factory followed by a stay at the downtown Ritz Carlton. Highly recommended.

After running the Philly Marathon (3:23, tyvm), I had a cheese steak at the Reading Terminal Market and it was the best thing ever. Since it was made with roast beef and provolone, I was told it wasn't a true Philly cheese steak. I didn't give a shit, nor did I ask.

Reading terminal market is cool.

Philly is my neck of the woods. When will you be out? If you have enough free time I might be able to arrange a ride.

Also there's a pumo track in philly.

I'm in town the first week of May, Tuesday thru Friday. Mostly going to be hanging around the CBC tradeshow. If I can sneak in pedal action, I'll take it. Phill has those city bicycles? In DC I was renting those and mobbing all over the city.
