To bad the Redbull thingy will be during the times most of us all work. What will the glu-lam boards be used for? By chance can we build on the road west of dog park?

Mike Westra and I have been wanting to do this for some time now.

Besides rebuilding walls and drainage.

The lam boards are going to be used to build a wall ride off of the stepup box at the end of the top jump lines. If that does not work out or we have enough left over, we will build a smaller wall ride off of the Holy Chute, which gets hammered in the berm.

Should be fun!

BTW, thank Mike for the insanity he had to go through to get the wood. Let's just say he wishes they made lip condoms for kissing ass.

Please don't take this for meaning you can build there, we really don't want just anyone just going in and building without getting with Mike Westra.

FYI!

You don't have to ask if you want to just spray some water or pack dirt back into places where holes have formed. :thumb:

But, yeah. New construction is a big NO-NO without approval. Please do ask though!

I'll ask Mike about building on the road west of dog park when I see him later today at the nod. I'll be finishing up building walls for the berms at the bottom of Pip's hips today with him.

Things keep falling apart and need to be fixed. For instance, the paver run-in to the step up is all eroded from folks deciding not to do the step up so they ride up the dirt and over the hill to the left side. Now you've got pavers sticking up out of the ground with the sand worn away on the sides. Not sure if there is a better way to fix this than just piling up more sand there to be eroded away.

I'll be fixing that next week. Might have to just block off the sides permanently.

Okay, that's great! Ray and I offered a hand to Mike to help fix it. Sounds like you're all over it.
I'm usually doing weekly maintenance at colonnade, but it's got a bit less this summer due to working at Duthie and the heat we had for so long. I can't stand being under I-5 when it's 90 deg out. :panic:

I'll be out there more the rest of the year.

Thanks all for keeping the Nade up'n'running. Apart from the need to constantly water and pack the dirt (berms, lips and landings) and a few hot maintenance spots (teeter totter failures, the "boxcar" step-up lip, "boxcar" drop landing)... that place is holding up amazingly well! Much better than I expected... So thanks a TON for all the TLC y'all have been giving!

Correcto on the "no new building" for now. Those glulams are to be used for the 2009 grant project from Seattle Dept of Neighborhoods. That project covers a complete overhaul of the drainage and a few related tread improvements.

The boxcar step-up is one of the tasks identified in that project. We have to fix the drainage and the tread in the landing, so it'll be just as easy to totally rebuild the landing berm and wall. We'll use the glulams for that... hopefully end up with a much better berm, and potentially a wall ride. We'll see... YoPawn is leading that. Related to that is the step-up take-off... Johan, Ray and Linda are going to tackle that early next week.

We're still working out the maintenance agreement with Seattle Parks. It's important to "freeze" the state of the park right now (except for the drainage project). Keep on watering, cleaning things up and packing down the dirt whenever you can... that's awesome. But if you ever see anything broken, shoot me an email right away -- mwestra@evergreenmtb.org. Schweeet.

Ray Linda and I got started on rebuilding the stepup.

It will be closed until the rework is done. Right now I'm working on prototyping two extra ramps on either side, which serve two purposes. 1. Reduces erosion. and 2. Gives different takeoff options for advanced riders. We'll see how they ride and then give an OK to make it permanent.

Wall ride should begin in a week or two.:D

Please respect the closure. No matter how much crap I put in front of it, people still take it down and ride unfinished stuff. Which is the #1 way to piss off a builder who hasn't even ridden their own stuff yet. Believe me, you don't want to get caught by someone who spends all their free time shoveling dirt and carrying logs. We can rip the arms off a guerrilla. :)

Let us know when you start work and Ray and I can help in any way on the wall ride. The plan to have different takeoffs and the wall ride sounds really cool!

Great to have the hose workable again too!

We were there last night - a few Red Bull cans around that we put in the trash. If nothing else, it helps to pick up litter and put in the garbage cans down below. Too bad we don't have a can over in Phase 2...hint hint.

What happened to all of the teeter totters? I was there yesterday and they were all boarded up?? I hope this isn't the result of some dumb lawsuit.
No articulating structures at Colonnade or Duthie. Liability reasons.

Amazing when you think about the other stuff people have mangled themselves on, yet still remain. Teeters are the least damaging when you fall off compared to other stuff.

The issue is that the articulating features do this that are not expected. A big jump is a big jump and you can see that. A teeter that goes off to the side or something is not as predictable.

I'm sure Westra will provide some more insight.

We're building a new set of awesome features there to compensate, so don't feel like it's a loss.

I agree that the teeter totters are some of the least potentially harmful features there, which is why I was surprised that they were boarded up. I'll definitely miss riding them, but look forward to what gets built in their place. Keep up the good work, and thanks! :thumb:
Yup makes no sense, everybody agrees. Totally stupid but the insurance that covers Evergreen will not cover it, so that's that.
Took alot of the wood from the old teeter totters and made the new longer skinnies in the Tqalu practice area. So not all bad.

While on topic is there anything people would like to see in place of the teeters? i "Frankenstiened" a simple elevated A-frame out of the teeters in the Tqalu, but that's for beginners.

Anybody out there got suggestions for the other ones. ideas ranging from range of advanced on down to beginer level.
