Alpine to Ripper?

So yesterday I rode Ripper for the first time and I stopped and waited for my friend to catch up, and I noticed what I thought was a little piece of trail connecting alpine to ripper. I didn't walk over to check it out, but I think it extends off the entrance to Das Wall. Didn't have a chance to check it out firsthand.

Has this always been there?

Sweet. Will definitely hit that line this weekend.

Here's another question: Has Frogpond been closed all season? If so, does anyone know why? I know it's just a small section and it's not a big deal but it was fun and I don't see the advantage to keeping it closed. Anybody know anything about this?

frog pond has been closed all season which is a shame because its super fun...my only guess as to why they keep it closed is that since its kind of an off camber dirt section is that a lot of riders would just cause the trail to erode and just generally f_ck it up...thats only my guess tho

I guess that's one possibility. But if they're keeping it closed to save it...what are they saving it for. Far be it from me to dog on the trail crew, I'm hoping one of them can chime in and just give an explanation, simply because I'm curious as to what the reason is.

It's almost easier to hit that connector trail onto Ripper from Domboo instead of Alpine. Just go straight over Alpine where Domboo meets into Alpine.

its closed because its always used in any race run on that side of the mountain. its like why they close the berms in the field, so no one can practice them during non-race weekends

same thing for the right hand berm in front of indy-x. i keep on forgetting they close it during non-race weekends.

speaking of races...are they gonna do anything to replace that section that was after lower ripper, by the flume drop? i liked that section...and if i recall, the race course passed through it one weekend last year.

I guess the "race course" reasoning makes sense. I'm not exactly thrilled about there being parts of the mountain that I can't ride unless it happens to be part of a race course, but I guess rules are rules.

Speaking of rules, some "no hiking on trails" signs would be nice.

hikers are people too...but not people who belong on the mountain haha when they had that event that was scary me and a couple buddies came rippin down an old race course and almost killed a very beleaguered hiker/runner...

Frog Pond: I've only seen Frog Pond opened a handful of times. That being when it was part of a race course, or the "go around" for freeriders to stay off the race course.

Hikers/Walkers: Someone at Diablo needs to talk to someone of authority at Mountain Creek lift operations........because, it's the lifties who keep telling people "when you get up top, you can get off the lift and walk around. There's a lake and blah, blah, blah..." I've heard it SEVERAL times over the past two years. It never used to be like that, and probably won't stop until some Euro-tourist and his 6 kids get run over by one of us flying down Bushwacker.

I guess to them it's like a business. Every person they can convince is $2 they're getting, tax free, haha. It's a substantial liability issue though. Those hikers DO NOT sign waivers so if they get hit by a DHer...there could be problems. The annoyance on the trails is one thing, but if they tie up Mountain Creek in a lawsuit, regardless of the lack of merit of the lawsuit, it's bad news for all of us.
