I saw a guy texting while riding a moped the other day. I wanted to run him over. Or at least door him off into a curb.

It's not that it's hard, it's that it's painful. If I need a one word answer for a question I have, I sure as fvck am not going to risk a potential 20 minute phone conversation if I call and ask.

Guess I live the "seriously alternative lifestyle" mentioned. Our plan does not include texting, we've had AT&T block text messages on our phones and I have the only 14 year old boy in the world that does not have his own cell phone.

What a caveman I am.

We don't have a texting plan. So when someone sends me a text I'll call them back. I think we have most people that we know trained to call us instead of texting us.

It's funny. I'm not sure if it's a westcoast vs. eastcoast thing, but I've found that texting is way way more popular out west.

That was hard to watch. there are 3-4 of us on this board that go to calls like that on a regular basis. It ain't fun, the I'd hit it comment is total bull****. I still have images that I see that I wouldn't wish on anyone...

You've never sat through a boring meeting, lecture, or incarceration?
just got out of a boring meeting. i am pretty sure if i pulled out my phone & started texting I would have had a closed door meeting after the open one.

Agreed 100% Eric. It's worse than drink driving in my book.

No Twitter is.

I have found value in texting, but when fvcktards keep sending a couple words at a time is lame.

I "talked" to a Creative Director over the course of a few hours today while he was busy shooting a TV commercial. Just effective multitasking...

I treat texting like email. I do it occasionally, with proper capitalization, punctuation and grammar, including full sentences. If the text conversation requires more than, say, 3 messages (initial message, response, possible reply), it's phone call worthy and not for texting.

My plan includes whatever the minimum number I can pay for is... 100 or something. I use maybe 20-30/month.

No Twitter is.
I find Twitter kinda interesting. I don't "tweet" but it's an interesting concept.

I read the article, but I don't agree.

I'm not one to hold my tongue in a meeting, conference, whatever but sadly too many people are, and they are growing up and doing business with social networking sites, Twitter, IM's, PM's, etc. Seems like people are hiding behind technology IMO.

When you sit down and talk to someone, they won't necessarily be honest with you, but as you get older you learn how to read people better and can gauge the meeting if someone is uncomfortable, happy, lying, etc.

I think the social disconnect is sad, and will not lead America's business world to greatness.

Ah, well I completely agree that online interactions are not a substitute for physical interactions.

I do see them as a really interesting and diverse supplement to them, though.

Look at this; at all of us. I don't neglect my friends or refuse to spend the night drinking and shooting pool because I've got online "buddies" but it's certainly a way to trade opinions and information and laughs with a wide variety of otherwise inaccessible people.

See, I didn't know you shot pool... One bar outing and I would have known that. And then beat your ass all night long... :D

RM is a useful tool for bike info and/or a place to blow off steam by way of keyboard, but the companies that are scrambling to have a "social" presence make me sick rather than meeting with and hanging out with the clients that pay their salaries.

I always thought the same thing...I always thought it was for 14 year old girls, but I have changed my mind. I work in a call center so I'm on the phone all damn day. I now think of texting as email on the go. I can communicate with someone, ask a question that doesn't require a large response, and not get hung up on the phone for 15 minutes. If I need to have a conversation with someone however, it's faster to just dial the phone.

It takes me forever to write a text message on my current phone (I don't use the stupid "abbreviations") - my next phone will be more "text friendly".

:stupid:

Anything that requires a lengthy discussion I'd call for. But small stuff I'll text sometimes, and I make a point of using proper spelling, punctuation, etc. As has been noted above, it's not a bad thing if you know your recipient may be in a situation where having their phone ring or answering their phone is inappropriate, ie class, etc.

I'd prefer that you stay away from my ass. After your marital history, I'm beginning to see where your, er, "preferences" lie :D

If you want to shoot pool, though, bring it. I'm sure you can get one of your namby-pamby art jobs in Raleigh.

A friend and I were laughing about that last night because she and I are both like that. My phone doesn't have a keyboard, but I still use complete sentences and punctuation. Minus the occasional 'lol'.
