One fun weekend of riding and a blast of a qualifying run followed by the race run of utter failure and chaos. :D Man, that was a really fun weekend of riding, camping and racing. Props to the whole neon shirt crew for all the hard work.

In a van down by the river.
I have a crap load of pics. I'll try to sort them out in the next day or two and get some up. Rewster didn't like me snapping his pic so he hurled himself over the bars and tried to wipe me out with his bike.
The bird crew did an outstanding job this weekend.

Big props to you but Kinetic Images gets the award for most alloy and armor to the chest. After he showed me a pic of Jeremy running him over, I tagged him two practice runs in a rows!:weee: Can't let Jeremy beat me.:thumb:

Well that was fun. Great event, great course, rain, not so much. My bars got nice and caked with mud early on so I had a pretty eventful run but I haven't had that much fun on a bike in a while.

That rain certainly spiced things up. I was feeling for the masters and pros, they saw a totally different track. Thanks for showing up everyone. I think it was a huge success and hopefully we'll be able to have another one soon.

Yeah it was definitely a mess by the time the masters got down.
Course went from dog sh!t covered peanut butter to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory in a hurry!
Next year let's get the lifts going.
Yeah, track conditions from saturday to sunday changed pretty drastically. And although it all took a beating, we rode it after everyone was gone yesterday and only a few things are actually destroyed.

Thanks a ton to everyone for coming out and racing- and a big thanks to spectators for not leaving when it started to rain. We will hopefully squeeze another one in before winter, there's talk of a halloween race with a costume category.

And yes, I'm trying like hell to get that big red aerial cable conveyance ready to go for bikes. Won't happen this season as we need to put a different auxiliary engine on it but I'd say next year's races won't need the help of u-hauls...

Outstanding job Team Green! From start to finish the promoters for this race had things pretty dialed. Didn't seem like a first race at all!
Put on by racers so everything was thought of! Proof in the fastest post of Results on the internet I've ever seen!

On another note: Dave Bethea- The pro rider who went down and landed on another bike at the end of the rythms on his last practice run Sunday,
Went to the hospital and was flown to Winston-Salem with some internal bleeding
and possibly broke ribs. I don't have much info yet as I will let everyone know
how he does later. Bummer to see him come back to racing after a few years off to have a serious injury! Everyone is rootin' for a speedy recovery and hopefully seeing him back on the hill again!

Please, please do this.
Seriously.
It killed me having to miss out on race day from a dumbazz shoulder injury that will be fine in a week.
A fall race there would be awesome.

Great job guys on the race, the track was so fun and sketch on Saturday.

Wow...healing vibes sent to Dave for sure. There were a TON of injuries this weekend. This was one of the hardest race courses I've seen but that was mainly due to the conditions. If it were dry, it would have been insanely fast and fun.

Talked to Dave's brother Gary, who said he had surgery to repair his liver last night which was almost cut in half!
He is in intensive care now and they will be monitoring his recovery over the next week before he can go back home in Daytona, FL

Man, this sport can be dangerous kids! Be careful when you can! Practice with lots of different level riders can get crazy and you never know what is just around the corner! Dave told me he was hitting the rythms and as he came off the 3rd one saw a rider down on the lander and couldn't avoid landing on the pedal of the rider's bike and took it to the ribs! He was wearing upper body armor, the pedal just caught him below the padding.
I am in no way blaming the rider that was down, and have no details of if he'd just crashed himself and couldn't get up quickly or not.
But, another lesson here to learn is if you go down on the trail and can move,
do it asap!-there are always riders haulin' arse right behind you.
I know there were people sliding out in sections of practice when I came through that would just sit there in the middle of the trail til' like 8 people were bottled up.

Great weekend of riding and racing. Big thanks to the guys that put it on. I couldn't think of a better way to get my introduction to NC downhilling.

In all fairness to the builders of the course, I just want all the amateur racers to know that course would have been of the appropriate skill level for all of you if not for the gnarly weather before and during the event.

I rode that course 3 weeks before the race and it was safe for all levels of riders. Everything had been designed and well thought out with nothing on it as a do or die section. But the tons of rain on it just morphed everything into a very technical trail. Luckily the design, layout of the berms, etc and the mulchy conditions kept speeds down.

I met tons of newbies, returning vets like Bethea, a guy from Connecticut, Muellers dad, moto's mom, Peete's son...and a berm that despises me.

Here's a thought. Would everyone be down for doing a PayPal donation to get David some flowers or something in ICU? Myself or someone's PayPal account?

best race in a long time and it reminded me that i still have zero skills in the mud. i got in plenty of runs on saturday before reopening old wounds in the lower berms. race run was my worst run of the weekend but i was still smiling as i was laying in the gully berms like a pretzel with my bike :D
helluva showing for the southeast with a bigger (i think) turnout than the beech series! i brought a rider with me to practice on saturday for his first experience with DH...on a borrowed bike...and he was killing it in a xc lid and borrowed pads :thumb: he's hooked and will be back i'm sure.

i didn't get any pics...but noah did and they actually turned out ok. after my race run i hiked up the trail looking for him. i asked several bystanders if they had seen a kid with glasses carrying a huge camelback and camera...they were like, "um..yeah, he's up there somewhere..he told us that he was a professional photographer"

also...best EVER heckle crew in the rock garden. i think they were app state kiddos in the costumes but i had a blast with them in the rain after my run. you app boys really know how to put on a fun event :thumb:

i'll post the pics that noah took in a bit

And I thought for sure Peter Mills or I would get the award for most damage done to their liver at the dirty bird! Heal up fast Dave.
Were you able to locate the person who went in the pink Converse sneaks :p at your tent?

I would pitch in for this. Not sure flowers would be the best thing though.
I'm up for suggestions.:thumb:

Also of note, the fastest Pro championship round time at 3:30 after a solid hour of rain and about 150 riders was 12 seconds slower than fastest qualifying time at 12:30.
When second and third can't beat my 9th best qualifying time, it's a gong show.:weee:
