Yes it does. If she's not a fan of gore I'd stay away from this one. It's socio-political undertones are pretty depressing too.
ok, thanks for the heads up. I'll probably wait for the HD On Demand then.

i don't like a movie with a lot of gore either. and though there was a bit...i found it to be used appropriately, in the right places but not overly done. so i was able to stomach it.

i liked the movie. it was not what i was expecting going in with a sci-fi theme in mind. but the way they blended sci-fi with documentary style filming made it believable. definitely not a lighthearted sci-fi film. was more like a "war" movie with sci-fi characters.

FYI for those seeing this......with all the CGI.....this movie was made on a 30 million dollar budget....
I was wondering about how much it cost to make. That's very impressive given all the busy shanty-town scenes.

I saw on Saturday and really enjoyed. I liked that is done to feel somewhat 'real'...nothign was pretty, nothing was romanticized. Some interesting themes. The only thing I had a problem with was that I found the leads voice to be annoying.
I'm not going to make it out to be the best SciFi moving or something. I liked it, but those are the reasons I liked it. I can't stand the "transformers" type movies. The new one seems to be "Gi-Joe". The crap just gets way too intense and unbelievable to me. Guys jumping 20 feet up in the air to spit bullets with swords and then landing on their feet crap.

i hope there isn't a sequel.

how it ended was perfect.
I'm going to have to disagree with that. While sequels can ruin a great movie, we are so starved for good sci-fi, a District 9 sequel would be welcome.

Killer movie.

Good to see something besides the latest hollywood power couple vehicle or whatever crap lucas/spielberg/whoever puts out to make a buck.
Peter Jackson Produced it. He's effin Skinny now by the way. I'm glad he didn't write or direct it, because I gotta be honest, While I enjoyed his movies to a degree, I though they were yawners. Lord of the rings, IMO, was epic....epic failure. Too long, too many wierd camera stunts where sometime the hobbits looked like hobbits, other times like just short people. Left out some really cool parts of the book and screwed with the trilogy just to keep the characters balanced in the movies. King Kong? I don't even remember one scene from it.

I think the reason it cost so little(if 30Mil is little) is because they filmed it in South Africa and used all the technology from Peter Jackson's previous projects. There was really nothing new in this movie except the theme. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but don't hate the big budget movies that bring new elements to the screen.

Take a look at the Matrix, Arguably one of the most revolutionary movies of the 90's and that technology is still being used in movies(as well as Sports event) today. Check out these quotes about the Matrix budget.

imdb.com said:
The Wachowski Brothers approached Warner with the idea of the Matrix and Warner balked at the budget they had submitted. Over eighty million dollars. Warner instead agreed to give them ten million. The Wachowski Brothers took the money and filmed the first ten minutes of the movie (the opening scene with Carrie Ann Moss) using the entire ten million. They then showed the executives at Warner the opening scene, and Warner was so impressed, they green lighted the entire asking budget.
imdb.com said:
By filming in Australia, the film-makers were able to keep the budget down to $60 million. It would have cost three times as much as that if it had been made in the States.
Personally, I'd rather see a Big Budget Movie if it's filmed in the states so that it's revenue isn't getting exported.

and thank god for that. Somebody actually put effort into the story, instead of just the bay-splosions. I don't think this movie was groundbreaking, but there's something to be said for a film that combines film sorcery with a decent plot.

Dude it was set in Africa...those shanty towns were already there and free to destroy...:D

I saw this movie the weekend it came out, but I kind of want to go see it again. There aren't many movies I would say that about, and in fact I have never seen a movie twice at the theater, but this one was good enough to still hold my interest.

Saw it sunday night. Not to bad, I'm glad I went. I was surprised how able I was to dismiss what probably would have happened though on macro and micro levels. On a side note those computer interfaces are pretty damn cool, I wish my computer worked like that.

am I the only one who hated it? the CGI was amazing, the acting was great but the story felt like it was put together by a drunk guy trying to tell a joke. cat food? they were addicted to cat food???? but here's the big thing that I can't stand about the movie. They ran out of gas. In a very simplistic form...the... aliens...ran.....out....of....gas.... They needed fuel from THEIR OWN TECHNOLOGY, to fuel the ship to get up to the mothership and fly away. They didn't have a gas gauge? Not one alien on that trip said.."hey guy's we're low on fuel maybe we should fill'er up" they had the technology with them lol it's not like they had to source it from earth lol oh ya.. in 20 years we never did anything about that ship hovering above the city? I like sci fi. back to the future was my favorite movie growing up, I enjoyed the new star trek. I'm a nerd when it comes to technology, my favorite book is real life sci fi "skunk works". I just can't enjoy this movie, it's too dumb and not well thought out.

I finally saw it last night. I liked it a lot. I actually felt pretty bad for the Prawns. That was pretty brutal when the main guy was coming apart like "the fly". Ripping fingernails off and shiz. That was crazy. I liked it a lot though.

when i go to the movies to see aliens on our planet, i figure something about the story is going to be unbelievable. I think it's funny that you think the unbelievable part is that they ran out of gas as opposed to tons of other things.

For whatever reason I started thinking about the sequel idea, since the lead character turned into a Prawn would it be conceivable that the rest of them also were changed into those creatures from a different planet to become a working slave colony for the one that flew away in the end.
