Hey

I'm in the process of building up a FS 4X/slalom/playbike. I've got two choices, Spesh SX (4" version) or Commencal Meta 4X.

Which frame should I go for? I don't have any chance to test ride any of them.. I've read some good things about the Meta 4X, and I love the 2010 color.

Cheers

The Meta 4X may be one of the best frames ever made. We have a 2006 and a 2008. The only reason we picked up the 08 was my son outgrew the 06. It is one of the only frames we will not sell just because it is so versatile and handles so well. We powder coated the 06 and my daughter is now rocking it. Both are probably OK but no one who has pedaled our Meta 4X has not loved it. Oh yea, and he usually podiums on it.

Cheers

I've owned an 06 SX and replaced it with an 08 Meta 4X.

They are like chalk and cheese.

The Meta is stiff, responsive, pedals really well (like hard tail well). The SX was flexy, too long, pedalled bad and was difficult to manual. Cant comment on the new SX, it looks good but I've not read anything about them.

I use mine for general ragging around the forest and trail riding. Over rough ground the Meta handles better (pivot location?) than the SX which tended to get hooked up. 4 inches aint much but when its all you've got it makes a difference.

I can honestly say the Meta has helped me become a faster rider.

Sounds like the Meta 4X is a nice frame.

I have not read anything bad about them so far.

So what's the deal on these new SX's? More of a slopestyle frame then a 4X/Slalom frame? Anyone have any input on these frames?

Have a look at the norco 4x. No bling names, but you'll get a complete bike for the price of the frames you mention. Mine rides great, heaps of fun.

Funny you mention the sx is flexy - that is all I've heard from my friends who own Commencal's about their bikes. They love them, but stiffness is not a priority apparently.
I've got no issues w/ flex on my '05 SX, and it's seen some pretty steady use/ abuse in the 2.5 seasons I've had it.

A bigger air canister and Push'd rear shock makes for a world of difference on the SX if you're looking to trail ride it. Stock, I couldn't get full travel if I was anywhere near proper sag levels. In it's current form, mine's ~30lbs and the most fun trail bike I've ever owned.

The Yeti 4x has completely different geometry - more xc racer than mini dh like the SX and 'cal.
