Whoops! The pedals I have are Atomics, before they became Atomlab. Love these suckers, bought extra bushings and bearings so they last extra long. I'll probably burn through a few coats of paint. I was dissatisfied that krylon flouro yellow was really industrial yellow. boo to that.

I picked up a pair of Haro Pivits for this fall's rebuild and they appear to be the Wa Wa's little brother, slightly smaller, much lighter and no notches for the pedal wrench. I didn't know about the spindle when I placed my order.....hopefully the hex will do the trick.

Does anyone have any time on the Pivits?

I have a set for Syncros Mental Mg pedals and after one race I had serious thoughts regarding their durability. They do offer amazing grip, but any pedal with those pins would. Well back to the trusty five year old DMR V12's.
I had concerns about the durability the Mental Mags after switching from the standard alloys but they were unfounded. My Blindside has a (for me anyway) low BB and I've gotten more than my share of pedal-strikes - - hard ones against nice, hard, square-edged Inland NW granite - - and I haven't lost a chunk out of them in two seasons. The pins have thrown sparks but none have ripped out or ovalized their holes. I'm darned impressed.

I'll add my $.02 on the Straitlines too. I've had a set for a year now and they have ~25 days at Whistler, about 15 of them on my Revolt with an extra low BB and I've smashed them a few times pretty hard. The only damage they have is one very good scratch and one bent pin. I was really surprised when I checked them after one of my hits and hadn't lost a pin. There are some minor scrapes like any other pedal but that doesn't count as damage.

I spent a week riding in the rain up there this year and it was hard on all of my equipment and the pedals were loose after that but the rebuild kit was $15 and it took about 45 minutes to rebuild one side and 10 to do the other once I figured out how to get the bushings out and back in. Now they are nice and tight and smooth again.

They only downsides are the cost and weight but I'm willing to put up with them for the ease of maintenance, the great feel, and the durability.

I love my canfield crampons. crazy thin and light. have been riding them hard for the last few weeks and am more and more amazed every ride.

here are some pics. you can see how thin they are compared to the typical "thin" pedals. they are next to corsair pedals which are the same size thickness as kona wah wah's and deity decoy's.
What happened to the gold color?

I am wanting to order a set right now.

These.I test rode them at Sea Otte for a few minutes. I'm kind of partial to them, coming from clipless, but they're pretty amazing. I can't say I've ridden a ton of different flats, but I can say that those are pretty amazing.

I still really like my DMR V12 Mag's. Have had them for 3yrs now, earlier this year took them apart for a clean & re-grease now they feel like new. Have hit some rocks etc with them (certainly don't look like new!) and I think lost one pin to date. I don't ride as much as some people though, so if I did perhaps they would be worse for wear?
The set on the other bike are Bilt Flatty II's, they are thinner with a wider platform then the DMR's, but seem to have about the same amount of grip, definitely a 2nd favorite especially for the price.

I can see how the DMR's might be a bit small for some people with big feet, or man sized feet I guess :D

I have a 2 year old set of Syncros mental mags......bearings are perfect, biddies aren't as pretty as they once were but intact, and they only lost a few pins despite being pounded off rocks. Fantastic pedals..........worth the $$$$$
I also have a set of Aluminum Mentals and they are just as good just 100g's heavier.
The aluminum and Mag mentals are my favorite pedal ever. The steel versions are just way to heavy.....800+ g's

Unless that pedal can make me pizza at the end of a ride and wash my bike people are being ripped off.
Suuuure does seem like a lot of cash for flats. They look great and I can't speak to the quality, but man....that's a lot of cash for platform pedals.

That spindle looks tiny, and the body is thinner than necessary. It just makes an uncomfortable bump around the bearings. To combat that they've run longer pins which prop your foot off the body itself. I think they're just competing to make the thinnest pedal. I would be interested to hear how they hold up after a couple of seasons. I like Canfield as a company, but I'm skeptical of those.

My vote goes to the Easton's.
You trash the Truvativs, but Easton is just as bad. I bent a spindle in a set of those and discovered they offer no replacement parts whatsoever. None. It doesn't matter if the pedal is rebuildable, you can't get parts.

damn they are nice looking and by the pin placement look grippy as all get out! whats the price on them?
$190 to $420, depending on how much Ti you want. That's 10 to 21 pairs of cheapies. Even at wholesale that's as much as any other boutique set.

I pretty well destroyed a set of xpedo magnesium pedals (~400 grams) while running them on my sunday. Even with the low profile and 165mm cranks, I was constantly bashing them on rocks until the left pedal essentially disintegrated. Seriously.
