Our local WalMart(8 miles one way) in Pigeon Forge,TN is a zoo & we hate it.The selection is geared alot more for tourist.Plus there a a bizzillion people in it 24 hours a day.
We go out of our way to another WalMart 20 miles away & it's much much better.

I need to see again the Southpark episode on "THE WALMART". Also the "Timeshare" episode.lol

For instance, if you are a grill company that manufactures your grills here in the US, they will take a look at your model 3000 that you sell for $399. They will tell you that they want to buy a bunch for $200. They will market it as a 3000W. They will reduce the specs on all of the metal, force you to use cheaper parts, then give you a manufacturer in Shenzhen, China who will make it for you. Basically they screw you, destroy your product and shift your manufacturing out of the country. Then they wave the flag. It's ugly.

Oh, and those suppliers they are shafting - American companies hiring Americans. Generally I am not a very patriotic guy and I believe that markets will find efficiency. I just really hate the fact that they use flags and patriotism to sell their products, which are all made in china.

True, very true. We have product "x" that we've sold them for years. They always come back to us wanting it for lower prices, but with the same amount of quality. You can't really tell them "no", because they buy so much from us. The weird thing is that we make money from them in a different way. We don't actually make money from them buying our product since they screw us over on pricing. We make money from staging all of the product that they buy. We stage it all so it goes in to a truck, marked for certain distribution centers. That way when it gets to one of their cross docks, it just gets pulled out of the trailer and thrown in to the one going to the correct distribution center. That way the Walmart employee doesn't have to do much work. We charge them for that extra work that we do for them. We don't make money from selling them hardly anything.
If our salesmen did tell them that we can't make the same product for cheaper prices, who knows what would happen. We'd probably have to close down or do huge layoffs of over 50%. I'm hoping that doesn't happen.

Yeah, Walmart is crowded. Anywhere around here is crowded. All of the friggin mormons and their kids they don't take care of. Ugh. That's why i always shop early or late.

I hate what they're doing with the economy, pretty much making it so damn near everybody has to shop there to save a penny. But i'll still go there. I won't preach to people about avoiding it.

I need to see that Family Guy episode again.

just got back from walmart. was thinking about this thread the whole time. think what you will...but i shop at walmart for almost everything. *insert jab from SB about how there's no surprise there + other colorful verbage*

fact is...it DOES have the lowest prices. as a single mother responsible for 2 children, bringing in one salary...my priority is to my family before it is to trying to right injustices. i do my part where i can. but bottom line is my kids need to eat and they need clothing, school supplies, etc.

does that make me insensitive to others? no

does it make me ignorant, stupid or any other stereotype you want to put on Walmart shoppers? no

it makes me get through paycheck to paycheck. period.

Wow. So many excellent examples of what is so absolutely perfect with the Walmart business plan from the Walmart perspective. Equally as many examples of why it is repulsive and wrong for everyone else.

Choke hold on suppliers and vendors? Check! See Leppah's post above.
Choke hold on the community and customers? Check! See Graphics post above.
Run all of your competition out of town by under cutting and other bullying? Check! Try to find a mom & pop store of any flavor in most towns these days.

Awesome! How as a god-fearing, pledge-saying, american-style free market capitalist could anyone not love Wallyworld?

Wow. So much unrequited love. Will you two just fvck each other so that the rest of us can move on?
What exactly is there to move on to here? This is just good debate on why Walmart is going to ruin the entire world.

I agree. I'm just saying stinkyboy and bitingback's repressed sexual feelings are keeping the rest of us from having discourse here.
True dat. But i think it's mostly just stinkyboy's hate towards anybody that doesn't agree with him.
