I normally ride Diablo and actually made it to Highland this year but im making it a point to finally get to snowshoe from the DC metro area. Can someone tell me what the scoop is for trail access. I have heard the downhill traills are shuttle bus serviced and i guess the park with made made obstacles is lift accessed. Also if anyone can recommend a good campground in the area

Are any of the trails open that have road gaps or what are the trail names? I want to check that out. Have you been to Diablo was wondering how you would compare them?

Which side of the mountain you hit depends on what you're into. The Park/Basin side is more freeride oriented, short runs with a lot of man-made features (ladders, teeters, rollers, etc.). The Western side is more traditional downhill. There are a couple of road gaps on the Western side. Best run on Western is Ninja Bob to Missing Link to Powerline.

I've hit up the last 2 U.S. Opens. Diablo is a good time. Come to think of it.....they are pretty comparable. Just arranged much differently. The "feature" road gap is always open. Hard to miss it. Very close to the top. If you're looking for something similar to the Diablo's run with all the jumps and berms(forget the name), check out missing link to powerline on the western. :thumb: Resort side has raging bull which is very comparable to Diablos latest slalom course at the bottom. Pro DH, and Hareball on the western are a good call if you like the rocky nasty goodness. Lots of lines through Pro Dh. Has a maze feeling to it that I dig. The resort side is no slouch. There are a few structures that will pucker you up. Check out A, and C for some steep tech. Then transition into the rest of the alphabet after you hit the fire road. You will find teeters, drops, skinnies, etc. The 2 sides are so different, it's like going to 2 resorts in one weekend.

I like it all but im looking for more longer runs probably. Certainly hitting up a trail called NinjaBob. Powerline i heard is like thier version of A Line and Dominion at Diablo. Thanks for the info

i'll probably be at whittaker this weekend with a friend or two. i've got a blue nissan crew cab and green bottlerocket. we'll be the ones that get there around midnight and are loud and drunk.

and for the record, the tempest trail at diablo is more fun to me than the missing link trail. the berms on missing link feel like they are gonna send you over and down the mountain.

I don't know if you've been back in the last couple of weeks but they re-worked both Ninja Bob and Missing Link to address some of the berm issues. I found them to be considerably better.

Don't forget about upper quick draw and sweet dreams. Both have pretty cool rock drops. Not trails with the best flow, but fun nonetheless.

Kind of jealous of Hollywood. Would love to be going to Snowshoe for the first time again. You'll be able to spend all weekend on the Western side and have a blast. However, don't ignore the basin side. Kind of fun to take the last hour of the day and try to get as many runs in as you can.
