Mason is now rocking his Glider everywhere!!!!! I never thought this day would come this fast, with him only being 2 ½ years old. All he asks for now is to ride his bike and go downhill!!!!! Well, very small downhill?s to us. He has only been Gliding (Picking his feet up) for about 2 weeks tops and already gliding about 20? to 30? at a time. He is also already doing complete circles both ways too. I am so proud!!!!! Pictures are about a week old.

Action shots:

Him riding the Board Wall up in Sea Side Hights NJ with his Mother. You sould have seen all the people watching him:

Yah, no pedals or brakes. The problem is now he just let's it go on just about any hill. Meaning the hills that are really to big for him. Our street is steep and he just fly’s out of the drive thinking he will get down with no problem. I had to catch him today. I am going to try to come up with some Road bike brakes for it soon. I think they will fit.

As for my wife. She is a gift from God and I am very lucky. I guess it's his way of rewarding me for trying to be a good person.

Strict 30 day pound-off program????????

on topic: crazy to see a 2 year old on a bike with no trainning wheels. My 5 year old daughter tries to rip it on her Dora bike but the trainers keep her form leaning into the corners..........they gotta go.

Training wheels are just another crutch in life…. If they never see or use them, they will never need them. Don’t get me wrong, some do. You understand what I am saying.

I think the Glider is one of the best ideas brought out of the bike industry in the last few years. I know they have been around a little longer than that, but it's been about 2 years main stream now.

nice Cecil! That is awesome. and I agree, training wheels are, in my mind useless but I can't convince some people otherwise (Read: Wife won't let me)

Biffff,
I have 2 girls, and after a hard fought battle with Bek over how to lose the training wheels, I ended up winning, and took the pedals and training wheels off of Emma's bike making it a "scooter" with a seat. She already knew how to pedal, but needed the feeling of gliding and balance. after about an hour of getting the hang of it, I put the pedals back on and within minutes she was pedalling in circles, figure 8's 2 days later. all of this a few weeks before her 5th birthday. I have a friend who used that technique and his girl was pedaling at 3 and a half. I am a little freaked though because Sophie (at 2years old) is way more adventuresome than Emma, and at 5, Emma is already asking me to build her jumps :thumb:

Agreed:thumb:

Awesome stuff Cecil. Doesn't it just make you feel so proud, it almost brings a tear to your eyes!

My wife wasn't convinced about the balance/glider bikes at first, but after seeing how quickly they have learned to "glide", lean while turning, and then trying to rail the pump track berms like daddy. She admited that I was right.

The boys just made their first trip to a skatepark last weekend on their balance/glide/push/etc bikes. Both impressed me, but one actually went down the 4' 1/4 ramp. They are offically ready for pedal bikes, Santa is bringing a pair of micro-mini's.

You know what that means, we'll be hitting the BMX tracks soon, you better dust off that cruiser Cecil.

I would love to get them all at the Skate park soon. I am sure if Mason see's your sons doing it he will try it without thinking to hard about it.

As for the BMX track, I do plan to have him out there soon. The Mini will be here in Jan for his 3rd Birthday. We will have new matching BMX bikes....

Already working on sponsorship for him!!!! You know me...

Strider's rock! My 2.5 yr old daughter loves hers. Record distance so far is about 2 miles (mostly downhill). Been to the bmx track a handful of times, and a sk8pk once. Got the brake for hers (for the big hills) but she's not quite ready to use it all the time yet.

New shots of Mason at his first day at the local Skate Park. Over all he did very well. The other Groms there were tripping on him and thought it was so cool to see him there at his age. The highest box he road down was the 4 foot boxes. I got him in the Bowl and he started to pump around in it really good until he fell over after about 2 mins of riding in it. He was done by that time. We plan to start going there throughout the winter on Wed nights.

Cool Stuff Man!! My boy started on a bike that size at age 2 but I left the training wheels on for him. Lifted them higher and higher every couple of weeks and then just took them off and he never missed them!

He just turned 4 at the end of August and pedals and rides all over, he's dropping 12" curbs now! He also does the "Turtle Loop" at the local trails which has a few decent downhills in comparison to him and his bike. He can handled about 4-5 mile rides now.

Here's a pic of him in a recent race! Gotta start them young, cool stuff for sure.

That's awesome! I recently talked one of my non-DH riding friends to get a Strider for his kid. Your pics/vid made me think of their website with a bunch of pics/vids of kids out at the local dj's/pumptrack near Rapid City, SD with their Striders.

very cool, your kids a stud. I didn't have much hope for those strider/likeAbike things, but once we got one for our daughter she was riding her real pedal bike by 3 yrs old, they really do help kids learn quicker.

Holy crap! That is impressive stuff. I can't imagine being 2 1/2 years old riding down 4 ft boxes that steep. He's gonna shred by the time he's 6!:thumb:

Mason had his first real big crash today. We started the day with a hike up at Paris Mt and after seeing all the bikes up there he wanted to go ride. I took him down to the big Park here in Greenville. There are lots of paved bike paths to ride on there. There is also a long grass hill that runs down to a big grassy field. We go there to practice DHing. After a few runs down the hill with big smiles on his face and all the people clapping for him he wanted to head back to the play ground there. We were on the way back getting ready to cross a bridge over what’s called the Reedy River (very dirty river that runs through all of Greenville downtown). Now the bike/walk path is about 1 foot away from about a 15 foot 60 degree drop to the river. He was riding close to the edge and I looked at him and asked him to get away from the side, well he took one look at the edge and water below him and lost focus and went straight of the edge into the river. He was on the bike about 85% of the way down the hill then went over the bars face first into the muddy river. Thank God the muddy water was a softer hit than a Rock or the ground. He did have his half shell helmet on. I jumped off my bike and then jumped 15 feet down into the water to pull him out because him feet were above his head. After making sure he had no water in his lungs I started to look him over to see how back he was. There was blood and mud all over his face and his cloths were muddy from head to toe. After people stopped to help us out of the river and get his bike out too, I carried him back to the car that was about ¼ mile away. He cried the whole way back. I don’t blame him. The nice couple took both of our bikes back for us. Was very thankful for them to stop and help. Well after a long story he is ok and just had a little bloody nose and mainly scared. I took a shot of him when we got back to the car. He made me proud because about 4 hours later he asked to go ride his bike again. What a trooper!!!!
I will be calling the County Park first thing Monday and ask them to put a rail along the 100 yards of this path next to the river. It’s really a big drop and there should be on there to protect everyone.

Sorry to hear about the crash... but it's awesome to see videos of Mason Shredding....

My son, Tyler, is 7 and he does not like to ride bikes at all... i tried everything, even Bribing him.... but he prefers to play basketball and baseball... :-) which is good... but i'd like a riding buddy, in the future... u know

Keep up the great work!

Cecil, get used to it. It may have been the first but it surely won't be the last. I've learned not to panic, now I just sigh and tell the kid to hang on while I do a couple more runs.
