Plattekill Mountain Hosts Gravity East Finals

Press Contact Information: Gravity East Series
SpectaSport LLC; KenG@SpectaSport.com
Ken Getchell, Account Manager, 610-397-1950

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

DATE; Conshohocken, PA, USA: The first-ever lift-assist Mountain Bike Park in the East will host the final race of the 2009 Gravity East Series on October 9-11. Plattekill Mountain in Roxbury New York is known for some of the most extreme gravity riding in the East, though with 60 miles of trails, there is literally something for everyone (even cross country). Plattekill first opened in 1995, when Missy Giove was still World Champion and Neko Mulally was wearing diapers. (The first World Championships weren’t held until 1990). Since then, Plattekill has been host to tens of thousands of visitors and countless races.

It’s this race-organizing experience that has brought the Gravity East Series to Plattekill for the Gravity East Finals, a double-points event for both Downhill and the e.thirteen Dual Slalom that will close out the 11 race season that stretched from the Old South nearly to the Canadian border. And it literally is a “must attend” event, as series rules state that riders must have annual USAC licenses and attend the Gravity East Finals in order to take a Championship Title in any class.

According to Plattekill Marketing Advisor, who knows the trails at Plattekill as well as anyone on the planet, racers face a challenging course. “Loose and steep,” said Ulmer when asked to what the racers can expect. “A lot of shale and drops with good flow on natural terrain.”

Plattekill will also be having an Oktoberfest BBQ with a surprise chef for the weekend preparing bbq pulled pork, homemade coleslaw, baked
potato's and more.

Plattekill will be open Friday with a $10 ticket with any race registration, and that we will also be open Monday on Columbus day with a $5.00 ticket for anyone who raced any event during the weekend. Just show your race number for the Monday Deal.

Plattekill will also have a large pile of trees for an evening bonfire
that have been drying out for months, the size of a 2 car garage.

Keep in Mind on top of the Purse that the Plattekill Race Series offers.

GES Finals PRO Points purse is $5000.00 for Downhill
GES e13 PRO Dual Slalom Points Purse is $1000.00, 400.00 in e13 swag, 25.00 for 3 Fastest Qualifers from BTX Air

hoping to make this one... races at plattekill have been great this season

p.s.

mount snow had a lift serviced bike park years before plattekill, and it used to be quite extensive with tons of trails from the top.

Anyone wanting to pre-ride this weekend, the Cat2/Cat3 course is taped and groomed. If you want to ride the Pro/Cat1 course bribe Nolan wit a couple PBRs and you'll be all set.

The Cat2/3 track is a new course worthy of the GES finals. It features mostly wooded single track, lots of jumps and small drops with go-rounds if need be. There is one challenging rock section, a couple of short pedal sections and it finishes on the last pro/cat1 singletrack with a short chute at the end. Parts of this track were used for sports/beginners 5 or 6 years ago. It's long and fun, I rode it last weekend with some Cat3 racers and all we're having a ton of fun. Expect times in the 4-5 min range.

Too bad it isnt at Diablo...

E-fight starts now

I don't think you will get an E fight on this one. everyone knows they have a series that works for them and I don't blame them for keeping it that way. They manage their mountain as they see fit, and so far it has worked for them.IE US OPEN. But I have to say Blue MTN is really stepping it up, now there is your e fight

this could be bad or okay. Laz needs to clarify the rules to everyone before the race starts and not change it half way through the race.

i think we should have stuck with the same format we have been using all year

What are you worried about sandbagger? Maybe you should race Cat2 DH next race too. I rode both courses yesterday. The Beg/Spt course is sick! I think some of the more tech sections will be taken out. At least two sections don't have a go-around and are Pro/Ex worthy. The Pro/Ex course is one of the best ever in my experience at Platty. Very, Very fast, mad flow, super tech, nothing stupid, just pure adrenaline.

Rode both race tracks today and both are really good. The CAT2/3 is more challenging then the one two weeks ago but nothing crazy.

The Cat1 is a revamp of and old race course from I think 3 years ago where I acutally hurt myself really bad dropping a big rock 1/3 down (a rock you now go around). The revamping is all about flow and it flows so much better than the original one. Plus its all steep and not much pedaling. Its seems like the new style race course just have great flow to them. Like right at the beginning there is this rock you have to get over before you get out on the open slope and it was pretty crappy. Now they build a little bridge and put in some well placed berms before you get to it too.

Platty keeps getting better.

Thank You to all the riders of the GES and Teams like the Sinister Freeride Crew who have been to most of the GES events. I could not have done it without all of your support and the support of the Hosting venues, looking into 2010 after this Final

Again if you read the Press release above this will be a MUST event to attend, and it is going to be huge, Plattekill and Laszlo are throwing down with two new courses and lots of food and fun for the riders, whether you are following the GES or the Plattekill series or neither this will be a Great weekend to cap off your season as many of the lift assisted parks and mountains are shutting down, Like Snow who ended their season and Series yesterday, which Sunday's weather was awesome

PRO/CAT 1 COURSE: The Cat 1 course will be steep and steep and steep. Plan on a steep track with loose shale everywhere, classic East Coast Fall Line racing at it's home. This track is all about flow and fun, it will challenge all to keep their momentum going and those that stay off the brakes will be rewarded. The Delta House Crew have done another amazing job with the course. They've added berms and a couple little tweeks to the mountain. You might just see a new huge roadgap on course if all goes right this weekend.

CAT 2/3 COURSE: The Cat2/3 track is a new course worthy of the GES finals. It features mostly wooded single track, lots of jumps and small drops with go-rounds if needed. There is one challenging rock section, a couple of short pedal sections and it finishes with a short chute at the end. Parts of this track were used for sports/beginners 5 or 6 years ago. It's long and fun, and some Cat3 racers were on it this past weekend and had a ton of fun. Expect times in the 4-5 min range.

Your welcome. That bridge was the center of controversy during my first real day of race course build contribution. I wasn't there to add more "work" to the project. But just to add another set of eyes and perspective. I love the "raw-ness" of Plattekill. But I also believe that a little man-made TLC can enhance natural terrain and not draw away from it.

I also want to thank all of the volunteers from the Delta House crew who sacrifice their free time so us racers can enjoy the best DH around. I suggest anyone who hasn't thanked them do so this weekend.

I will be there Thursday morning. Can ya say new double side road gap
R U fvcking kidding me!?! It's done? It really exists? OMG. U da man Bunkers.:weee:
