The clutch is going out in my subaru, so before it does I plan on trading it in on a 2002 Nissan Xterra, any reviews?
might be time for a valve job...I've got a frontier in the 00-04 age group which shares the same engine and probably more. Does anybody else notice a tapping noise when it's cold out? You can be in park/drive/etc so it must be the engine.
Also, when under high load do you hear a rattling noise or something that sounds like a bunch of leaves stuck in the air intake?
+1, what you're hearing is one/some of your valves being starved of oil I bet, at least at idle. Maybe have someone check the oil pressure to see if your oil pump is about to sh!t the bed.might be time for a valve job...
valves or timing chain guids have warn out and need to be replaced along with the timing chain.I've got a frontier in the 00-04 age group which shares the same engine and probably more. Currently has 270+ and still going strong.I ran mine for over 200K miles. OE clutch went out around 170K I think. Served us well. Ultranoob here on RM has it now.
Tapping noise that goes away as the engine warms up is indicative of sticky hydraulic valve lifters. Easy fix, no need for a valve job. Each lifter costs about $10.I've got a frontier in the 00-04 age group which shares the same engine and probably more. Does anybody else notice a tapping noise when it's cold out? i did not really like the Xterra. why?The clutch is going out in my subaru, so before it does I plan on trading it in on a 2002 Nissan Xterra, any reviews?
the '99 also suffers from similar "eff-you" design principles for changing spark plugs. This reminds me of another problem I have with the 00-04 frontier/xterra. How they hell do you change the spark plug closest to the firewall? It took me 2 hours with a helping set of hands and a jerry-rigged socket wrench setup.
Sounds like you take care of your car like you handle relationships.I'm looking at them pretty har right now.
My subaru is stick. When I push the clutch in, sometimes the engine dies, it's doing this more and more often. Do you know what it could be? I want to trade it in before it dies.
Also, it's leaking oil around the cam seal, makes a knocking sounds sound for about twenty minutes after start up.
Should I fret over this ****? Should I trade it in?
How did you get so goddamned stupid?I'm looking at them pretty har right now.

You and he should roll over to Lady Cleo's and have your sands read together. I'd love to hear the outcome. How did you get so goddamned stupid?
That was our plan too for our trusty 00 Xterra 4wd...but!We plan on keeping it until it dies.
