After putting in a few miles on a 29er, I would say he is right. However, I like the stability that the larger wheels give in rocky sections. Of course, you can't pound through because the wheels are inherently weaker.

"terrain specific" does make sense to me. The 29 size does challenge me in rocky, technical areas. For the majority of my rides, however, the 29 offers irresistible advantages.
