Just got a set of wetscreams was thinking of running them this weekend at Plattikill gonna be rainy and some possible snow 1st question should I run them or keep my Minions on, and two should i cut the wetscreams down so I can use them at lets say Rocky stuff like Diablo and stuff so I would make the Wetscreams my nice wet tire setup I just am scared of cutting down $100+ worth of brand new sticky rubber you know... Also I am 220lb any fact into the wetscreams knobs folding if your above 180lb or urban myth....

Fresh minions are fine at PKill. There's plenty of grip even in the slop there because of all the shale.

You'll chew up those tires plenty of fast riding them in conditions where there's plenty of grip. I'd only use these tires when racing in muddy or loamy conditions and cut them depending on the particular conditions. Personally I think it's a bit silly cutting a dedicated mud tire for simple riding and wasting away a tire after a weekend or two.

I used my minions (F fr, R rr) in the slop last weekend with remarkable success. Only problems were deep mud, which sucked, but that was only a few spots. Plattekkiillll drains well and the sticky compound worked great on rocks. Whiteface or mt. snow I'd rock the mud tars.

Yea platty is too rocky to really get much benefit from a set of screams. They are intended more for loose, sloppy, grassy, muddy terrain.

Yeah they seem to work best in slop. If the mud starts to get dryer (pasty) they don't shed the mud as well. Last Sunday by my race run they had started to lose their effectiveness at the top. Once I got down to the wet section they were great.

Cool, thanks for the help yeah I will save them FRO..

Now on the wetscreams if the snow really comes down and lotz of rain for the race at diablo this weekend what do you guys think about rockin the wetscreams I mean they are no good on the rocks and we know diablo has plenty so would cutting them work for me I ask cause i just got them and this is the first time I would use them.. Or should I use my usuall rain wet setup which is a Highroller SR on the front and a Swampthing STacky in the rear??

I don't see how wetscreams aren't good on rocks. Everyone says they aren't but I feel like they work fine. You can feel the knobs folding but they still grip pretty well.
I've never used them at diablo, unless is super sloppy I'd probably do without

Cut wetscreams aren't half bad on rock or hardpack...not as good as a minion or a high roller, but they aren't as unpredictable or sketchy feeling as uncut ones. Uncut wetscreams are for truly deep slop and grass (like the windham GES)

For reference, I ran cut wetscreams at the plattekill race last weekend and was liking them. They are mint for the fresh cut or newly exposed stuff you tend to get at plattekill, as well as the grass traverses and wet corners at the bottom. When cut, they aren't really a mud tire, just a loose conditions/wet/grass tire.

That being said, as hard to get and quick wearing as they are, I would not go freeriding on them. Minions would be fine.

I wish i got to ride more mud. We don't get much of it in Utah. I did get to ride some last weekend though. Fun shizzle. I can't help but laugh when i'm riding it. It's hard to get used to not using the front brake. Especially when you weigh 210 neked.

Thanks again guys. So ok I am gonna go with my minions. Anybody run a swampthing in the rear i heard that is a pretty good setup for wet diablo.. I mean I am riding diablo this weekend if I dont make it down to Pkill and its gonna be WET at either .. Race is on Sunday so just trying to figure out what setup to run.

I wouldn't waste them for non-race use, platty will ruin them in 2 days.

Platty is weird, some trails are so shale covered you would never need a mud tire wile other trails make mud tires a great choice.

The Maxxis Swampthing is a better choice for platty than the wet scream.

i couldn't disagree with you more. i can't think of a single situation where i would want to run swamp things on my bike.

best bet it to try a few different set-ups and see what works for you. riding style, in particular how much speed you carry over rocks/roots and how/when you choose to use the brakes can make a big difference in how spike tires behave on rockier tracks.

I always heard good things about the swampthing I have one never rode on it but I heard that a Highroller front and a Swampthing rear ST is a good wet diabo combo but never tried it myself. The wetscreams I got to have found them for $45 a piece and picked them up cause I rarely ever see them for sale.. So I am realy new to any wet/mud tire I do usually just run a Minion or a HighRoller and I will tell you I have a set of Minion 60a that feel just as tacky as my Highroller Reezy.
