I am out to get a pair of winter pants for some light freeriding (not much DH here in the winter). As I ride a BMW which has the "chainsaw" transmission on both sides, I want some pants with a pretty tight fit on the lower part of the leg (but no tights here).

Any good suggestions for something not too heavy, but nice quality?

Thanks

thought you were talking about a BMW motorcycle then I realized you were talking about Brooklyn Machine works. Makes more sense now. I suggest Nema Revolver pants, or TLD GP pants, both have a trim fit that you can still fit pads under but taper significantly at the ankles to keep 'em outta the way.:thumb:

Why? Just need some advice of a good pair of light freeride pants for winter riding. What is the confusing part?
what is "light freeride"?

is that where you wish you had some balls, but realize you're a pansy, and never do anything at all, but you still ride a "freeride" bike?

why in Hell would "light freeride" require special pants?

oh hell, never mind. this thread is all about you validating your ego and your Brooklyn Motor Works bicycle ownership. congratulations, you're a badazz for owning a BMW and claiming to do "light freeride."

seriously.

You have posted some really stupid and whiney stuff lately. Get some exercise, get laid, hit a heavy bag..whatever it takes to stop being such a bitch would be nice for all of us.

i used to just ride in an old pair of snowboard pants. they work fine. Plus, they have pockets.
I have white TLD pants that i got for $50. I've worn them one time. They're too "cool" for me.

Why not ride in winter tights? A proper set of tights designed for roadies riding in the 20's with a november headwind will keep you warm enough. If you're afraid being seen in lycra then wear a set of baggies shorts over them. It'll be no different then wearing shorts in summer as far as your pant-eating drivetrain is concerned.

Pretty much any race pants from a moto company would be ideal for you. Just make sure to get inseam measurements for them. Moto pants tend to run short.

Yea, I would just add winter tights or leg warmers to your current kit and be done with it. They'll keep you plenty warm, stay out of your drive train, and functionally will just work a heck of alot better.

IMO That's exactly what makes moto pants not "ideal", 1) they do run short b/c they are designed to fit inside a boot so they really only need to run to the lower calf. 2) with that short fit you will totally expose your ankles 3) think of the range of motion on a moto, your knee bends at most 90deg..so they aren't really designed for a full range i.e. pedaling..

There is plenty of MTB specific apparel including pants in the market, of course i'm baised, but i don't see a good reason to keep looking to moto co. for your MTB gear..

Apparently it's too cool or not cool enough or too short or whatever, but I've got a set of TLD GP pants that are tapered and warmer than shorts. They work great as far as I can tell.

I always forget to ask other people what they think of me when I'm riding though, so I can't be much help in that department.

Yeah I can see that. I just bought a size too big in waist to compensate for inseam length. They have waste belts so doesn't matter. Wearing long socks or having underarmor under the pants negates any exposed skin around ankles. My pants cover my ankles almost always anyway.
