The whacked-by-a-car honor roll

I had three collisions with motor vehicles when I was a commuter in Cambridge.
  1. Foot run over, no injury but broke off a pedal and I had to ride home ten or fifteen miles one footed - my fault, passing on right between car and curb.
  2. Drafting a van on Mass Ave, they braked and I broke a finger
  3. BMW hydroplaned on Mem Drive, hit a wall, I hit him and went over his hood - broke my stem - rode home holding the bars in my hands so I could operate three speed shifter and brakes.

I got hit once. The chick wanted to roll out and my cell phone had hit the pavement but still worked. I called the cops and she took off. I got her plate number. Cop shows up and tells me it's a stolen plate... Bitch.

When living in SF a car hit me throwing me off my bike. I was fine, because my two day old laptop cushioned my fall. Laptop didn't survive.

Non bike related: Two years ago I was on my motorcycle, at a red light. Light turns green, I stay put because there was traffic in the intersection. No one could go at the time. The lady behind me didn't care, she floored it, hit me. I stayed on my bike thankfully because the bumper of her Explorer wedged between my tire and the bottom of my seat/tail light area.

She floors it in reverse pulling her bumper off as it stays wedged in my bike. A helpful person, also on a moto helps me remove the bumper and push my bike to the side.

The lady's excuse was "Well I thought you were gonna go". In the meantime, no traffic has moved because the intersection still wasn't clear.

Awesome.

I got car doored in Queenstown, NZ on the main street riding towards its town center in 2002. Had lots of witnesses and filed a police report against the women for damage to my bike, I forget what the result was.

I was riding in the snow back in high school, and a lady ran a stop sign at a 4 way where I had no stop sign, she hit me in the rear axle and I spun about 720* before I got flung loose. I landed in the snow in the street and was pretty much fine. So was the bike, a Schwinn homegrown carbon FS, a cool old bike I still have.

she got her car stuck on the curb, and I had to help her get it off. Poor oldish lady was terrified and so apologetic.

Three years ago in Norfolk.

Evidently hitting fat kids on bikes is a motorsport.

Didn't Pesqueeb get hit while riding a scooter?
Yup. I've technically been dead once already.:dead: Getting hit is uncool.:stosh: I wasn't going to post since it wasn't on a bicycle but I notice that hasn't stopped several others, so count me in I guess. I did once hit a car in an intersection when I was a kid. My fault though so I'm not sure that counts either.

I hit a taxi once. It pulled ahead of me and then slammed on the brakes. Full on endo To barleap. I managed to land on my feet and keep going. I barely even stopped moving. I guess it doesn't really count, because I'm awesome.

I hit a car in a parking lot when I was a teenager. Does that count?

I t-boned a car that crossed into my lane of traffic back in 1978. Got a nose job out of it. Totaled my '66 Falcon, did 4 grand of damage to a 5 grand car that was 1 month old. The guy wanted it totaled, the insurance company said "fix it".

Over your shoulder whispering
Twice in my life, both in the last year while on 30 minute rides on my road bike.

First time, up a super steep uphill here in Fairview, NC. Grade is insane. Granny ring on the road bike standing up with the wheel almost slipping. Brand new diesel F250 whirs past at 20+ and the passenger mirror puts me flat on the shoulder. In fairness to him, I couldn't have seen me either. I'd just come around a blind curve right into the sunset.

Second time was 08/11/09 and I was sitting stopped on a side road at a T intersection to pull onto the main road. A white Dodge diesel (sense a theme?) cut the left hard and blew me off my bike. Luckily my foot was on the ground at impact and I pushed off the hood of the truck. It sent my bike flying 15 feet and bent a few things. I trusted the guy to pay...until he got the bill. Then i had to turn around and file it on his insurance.

To the thread starter, you should edit your original post to add the alias of each person as they post. That way your list grows.

Twice.
First one, not even a scrape. Just bumped and knocked over.
Second one, pickup truck got me. My leg dented his bumper. Broke my right Tib/Fib all the way through. He stopped, got his insurance. Had to learn to use my leg again. Fine now, just have a ti rod from knee to ankle and 2 screws. Looks gnarly on an X-ray.

I'm in the 10+ range. Few times as a kid, once on roller blades (I was 12), once skate boarding in college, one walking across the street, clipped 4-5 times by cars, push by side of bus into a parked car once. Nothing was bad, but I have since learned my lesson.

Got hit in 2003, lady in a jeep wrangler clipped my rear tire, sent me flipping through the air, tucked and rolled across my back pack, landed on my feet. Broken foot, torn acl, seperated shoulder.

My wife once mowed down some kid in a crosswalk, Does that count?
Kid ended up fine and the police said it was his fault! hahaha , How is your fault when your walking in a crosswalk?
Actually, I have seen plenty of people try to cross at a crosswalk BUT NOT look for traffic that would have definitely been their own fault. OPEN DEM EYES PEOPLE!

NORCAL is the hizzle
Hit and run by a limo mid-winter around '94 or so in Boston. I was a little banged up but pretty much fine, lost a rear wheel and had to straighten my frame. Countless near misses before after.

And then there was the time I foiled a would-be bike jacker by shoulder-checking his ass to the pavement, holy crap that was awesome.
