I maintain/oversee a University recruiting db. I've seen some pretty terrible names. Wedchardley Revolus was entered just a week or 2 ago.

When I was at my last job, a number of people in our HK location had the surname "Wang". The best one was "Lei Wang"

A guy that used to work here had a last name "Hyungmaitip" (hung my tip)...not sure on the exact spelling but it sounded like that.

And actually, as a rule, if your name is indeed Richard, and you want to shorten it for casual use, why would you NOT choose, Rich or Rick?
