Thanks for letting us know. That does suck. I'll be there for the next one though. This rain is killing me.

went to carters today in the rain to show a newbie the trail before tommorow, we walked the trail and it seemed very nice, covered with leaves but no mud at all, we took one run down,(we didnt hit the hip/ski jump im sure it was soft and didnt want to rut it up) it was fun, not to slick, and for sure not sloppy, so all should be good for the morning, i am going to try to be there early with my blower to help with the trail if needed.

Just checked the site and it says the following:

Next Race is Nov. 1st
CANCELED...due to weather and trail conditions
One more try folks, Dec. 6th

Are you kidding? After all the other DH events this year held in the worst conditions
a sprinkle is going to cancel this one? Looks like they just want an excuse to cancel/.
especially after reading the previous post.

It rained on the hawk-o-ween parade today. Not quite a repeat of the august show but it was pretty wet. We had a good crew and everyone had a blast despite conditions.

There are some folks getting SOFA going again, not as a chapter but, as a club to support existing chapters. Officers were appointed last week. Spoke to PK the co, and that is a priority for next year. And EMBA have given the green light to hold events for next year.

Cool let's build some better trails! I would assume they would still let us
build the "planned" Expert trail?

Agreed! Let's just make sure we build natural features this time so it can be raced wet. I'm down to get out there this winter and build on any Saturday. We need to have something in Georgia that's a legitimate downhill race course whether it's at Carter's or somewhere else. I think that having sofa around will help a lot because most of the GA riders(outside of Big Creek area) are pretty spread out.

Carters was as a legitimate race course as Georgia is going tO have and there was nothing wrong with that. That is what was so great about carters; it was a great, fast 1:30 race course. They didn't try to make the course longer by slowing it down or making it go uphill to get to another feature.

Carters is great fun, no need to redo anything. Just hold a race already. :)

I'm not trying to say Carter's isn't a great place to ride. I love riding there but I'd call it more of a freeride trail than a downhill course. That type of trail gets way more messed up from wet weather riding than a more natural course. I would have to disagree with you about that being the best that we'll be able to do in GA. Most of the NC courses drop less than 1000 feet and there are plenty of places in GA that drop in that range, but access needs to be gained and trails need to be built.

Hmm the trails are OK at best. They DO go uphill. they are too short and the jumps aren't very good. There are some fun sections but, to me it has the feel
of a freeride trail more than a DH trail.
We have mountains here in the 5000 ft. elevation range-So to say that's the best we can hope for isn't true. In fact there are better shuttled trails 15 min.
away just no-ones holding races there and they are like many shuttled riding
spots- in that there are some short climbs to connect the DH sections.
We could have much better trails than these but, yes the problem is with
land access and with people going after that access.
We here in GA don't
exactly go to the extent of finding these places! The guys who developed the
Carter's Lake trails did that and this is probably the best spot they found to get the kind of response they did for access. The little races there were fun but, mainly cause friends are getting together to ride. I live only 2 hrs. away and the trails aren't good enough to me to ride there throughout the year if there wasn't a race held there. However I drive 4-5-10 hrs. to ride the good stuff.

We have to get off our butts just like people in NC - TN have to get access to some good mountains! Tough job though, considering that everyone is scared
to have this sort of thing cuz they don't want to be sued. And that there aren't any ski resorts to which may have insurance and a reason to have DH trails
to make a few $bucks$.

The place to lobby for such is probably Dahlenaga GA - The shop I worked for several years ago talked with the town mayor about doing stuff up there for xc trails and road races. The mayor was all for trying to build a name in the cycling world to bring people to the small town. He wanted it to be known for cycling of all kinds. I don't have the time to chase land access 2-3 hours from home but, would certainly build trails in such a place where there is a legit hill 800+ elev.
