Looks like I might be getting a new frame soon,so get prepared for a bunch of dumb noob like questions. :D

Currently riding an STP. I might be getting a new frame w/ horizontal drops. I don't have the the funds for a new wheel and I don't know if I can change out the quick release for a standard nut style axle.

I can't imagine that a quick release will hold but maybe you guys have some suggestions?

what kind of hub do you have? I was able to get a shimano XT switched over to bolt on before, but it took a lot of digging for proper size & threading cones and lock nuts.

I'm guessing it's a generic hub on a stock STP. I do have a shimano XT (Or some letter combo'd name) wheel somewhere though... Sounds like a pain in the ass.

Yeah like jon said, you can definitely do it with the XTs.

If taking a hub apart is uncomfortable for you, then just buy a different hub or find someone to show you how.

^I don't mean that sarcastically at all. It's not a big deal for some people to take a hub apart, others are a little more intimidated by it. You might be able to find someone at a bike shop to do it as well.

Or until you tag a landing and knock the wheel loose. I done seen it happen.

Quick releases stretch. That's why they suck in horizontal dropouts.
Years ago, I watched this guy show up at a spring slalom race with a freshly built Chameleon. Right out of the work stand.
His first run down, he cased the first jump and ripped his back wheel out of the horizontal drops. Rear der. went into the wheel and spokes exploded, snapped his cable, and his brake hose came off the rear caliper and peed oil all over his rotor.

Good times.
