I'm talking of GES or some of the softer WI/MI DHs. Is the Furious a fun toy for those or would you stick to a full DH like the Commencal Supremes?

Furious will do just fine though probably a less progressive and longer bike will be more confidence inspiring. Depends on the track. You now own a furious or do you want to buy a new bike and you are not sure which?

Elaborate please. I know at least one person who is very happy with his.
You could race DownHill on a full rigid if you wanted to, you may not be as fast as others but you'll have fun just the same.
firstly, I was really surprised how heavy the thing was. I have 3 DH bikes, an old SGS DH with a heavy build, a much lighter Sunday and a lighter short travel Spesh SX set-up as a mini DH bike and was expecting something inbetween the Sunday/SX performance wise but the Furious was a pig to ride, possibly a heavy build (but like I said my SGS is a very heavy build (48lb) and it never slowed me down.
What I thought of the furious - pretty awful bump response, felt like it hooked up on every square edge hit robbing speed all time and didn't give a smooth ride on the small chatter bumps either, it pedalled badly, took an age (and a lot of effort) to get upto speed on and had no pop off jumps.
like I said it could have been more to do with bad set-up tho.as the forks (66s) felt awful too (too slow and over damped - especially on a bike that felt so heavy/slow) I've ridden 888s plenty and got on just fine with them but it's the only rocco I'd ever ridden. that day I was on my hardtail on a DH trail and was so happy to get my own bike back.
FWIW - my friend is very happy with his and tells me it's not a DH bike and that's why I don't like it
Looking at getting one, interested in something playful that would be good on DH races (I could hit 3 or 4 around the upper Midwest (WI/MI) next year) and may take to Snowshoe or Diablo on a bike-safari in the Summer.
I was looking at the Furious, or their Supreme 1 (the 09 version of the Mini DH).
Right now I have a 150mm Jamis Dakar XAM, a good all-mountain and could be good on DH runs but I'm looking for something that would give me more confidence, forgive mistakes and be strong enough for the beating. i have the opportunity to get one of those 2 bikes and wasn't sure if the Furious was too heavy or too "slopestyle"?
The furious has a scary steep 69.5 deg head angle. That rules it out for DH in my book...that's steeper than most XC bikes these days.
Yeah , the head angle is too steep for DH courses, it's made for slopestyle step ups and 360's off drops, with long travel, but tight handling and wheelbase.
The Supreme (Mini DH) is a total blast to ride though. It may be short on travel but the angles and feel make it pure fun, maybe a bit slower but it hops over stuff and flies around corners.

The big furious with 180mm travel not the 100mm double like ss bike!! I think it was 66 or 67, the 69.5 is for a different bike. I think it was furious and furious sx or sth.
Gary as for what you say I personaly think that roco is really a bad shock. Never tried a bike in which it felt right. Also I think furious wasn't really designed to take hits or pedal well. It's just an oversize park bike. I'd rather think of it as a bottlerocket with more travel. Though I have to agree that after 09 commencals got obese. The bike is downhillable but there are better options if you don't mainly ride smoother trails.
Imho the best thing you can do now is to go with the 2010 intense SS (I really dislike their bikes but this one really speaks to me as a dh-able smaller bike).
Other option is to find a 6-7 inch bike with 1.5ha and put angled reducers so you can get more of a dh geo. Banshee rune maybe? I've heard about some people racing dh on them.
I'll second that...the Supreme is a damn fun little bike! I would way rather downhill one of those over a furious. The Supreme has the DH angles with shorter travel.
The furious i did laps on for a day in andorra was mega twitchy and steep. It is definitely meant for playing in the park, not high speed DH. It killed tight switchbacks though!

Rules it out only if you get shaded out by steep angles. I have seen guys riding Tazers down very steep loose rocky terrain that makes the average track look like a sidewalk.
That is the worst quality pdf i've seen for a long time.
