Hey Guys!

I’ve been comparing the 2010 Demo 8 geometry against the 2008 one.

I found that a 2008 LARGE frame is longer than a 2010 MEDIUM one on the wheel base (KIND OF OBVIOUS), but the 2008 LARGE frame is shorter on the top tube length (SURPRISE FOR ME).

Am I reading it correctly according to the geometries below?

Year.............................................2008...................2010
Size..............................................L........................M
Top Tube Length (Horizontal)............ 23.3....................23.9
Top Tube Length (Actual).................21.6....................20.9
Chainstay Length............................16.6....................16.6
Bottom Bracket Height.....................14.5....................13.5
Seat Tube Angle (Actual).................65°.....................62.5°
Head Tube Angle.............................64°.....................64°
Wheel Base....................................48.0....................47.0
Standover Height............................30.3....................28.9

I currently ride a LARGE 2008 Demo 8 and think it is too long. But it has the perfect seat-to-handlebar length.
So, if I buy the new 2010 frame in MEDIUM, I’ll have the perfect size frame, right?

PS: I’m 6-ft tall.

Cheers!!!

Since the chainstay and head tube angles are the same, the wheelbase is the telling measure. The 2010 M will be about an inch shorter from the pedals to the bar horizontally than the L 2008. That's the measurement that really matters on a DH bike, because you're never sitting down. The TT length difference is just because the seat tube angle is slackened out a bit.

Yes it will be perfect! i am 6" tall and i got a 2010 med. and its money. the mediums are about 5cm longer then the mediums of the previous years because of the slacker seat tube.

i had the same problem, and im in that problem again... i were using s 2008 demo for a while, the medium size i found it was perfect for me, then i bought a sx SMALL and the wheelbase was about 116,8 pretty large for be an small frame. a few weeks ago, i test an small demo 8 and it has the same wheelbase than mi ex-sx... but the toptube was a bit short, and it didnt fit me well, being that it has the same WB i wonder now (will fitme well the new small 2010 demo? suposing that is a bit longer i read) it will helpme a lot a bit of recommendations. thanks

interesting. I am 5'6"-5'7" and was thinking the same getting the small and putting a longer stem. thought about getting an adjustable stem like the twenty6 f1 as well. Then i could play around.

My last bike a Santa Cruz Bullit was a small but I found it too small and I think I am being pretty hesitant to get too small of a bike again..

Looking at specialized's recommended sizing, they put us both on the medium but I am kind of in that no man's land right on the border between the two sizes.

I'm thinking the small is the way to go, but until I actually order it up, I will probably overthink this way too much.

Definitely a small. You won't need more than a 50mm stem either.

Demo's come up big relative to most other frames. Look at the wheelbase length, pretty long for 16.7" chainstays eh ? Big front centers for sure. Forget about TT length.

Check the reach and stack - http://www.specialized.com/ca/en/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?sid=10Demo&eid=4346&menuItemId=9451

thanks JCL. I think I just needed to hear it from a few other people to make sure I'm on the right track.

I'm an inch taller than you and had a medium 08. It was fantastic at mach retarded, but definitely a little long at most other speeds. If I were to get another one, it would be a small. The new bikes are pretty much the same, just a lower BB. As said, all they did was change the seat tube angle.....which changed that useless of all measurements, TT length.

Seriously, just look at wheelbases.

yep definately a small, I am 5'-8" /5'-9" somewhere around there and the small is bang on and I'm running a 50mm stem. Mind you it's an '08, but i've done the good ol' parking lot/bike show floor test on the 2010 and it is still golden.

im 5'7" and i find riding my friend's 09 demo 8 medium a bit too big...but its not like horrible except for the rear end that tends to stick out just a bit too much

i had a 08 bullit medium and it was about right....the small is just way too small

The 2009 and 2010 bikes have the same rider compartment. The TT published length is misleading only because the seat tube is in a different position.

In the future, we will be publishing a dimension called "reach", which is the horizontal distance from pedals to bars. This will be the quickest way to compare bikes.

In general, out bikes run on the long side. If you think you are between sizes, then I generally suggest going with the smaller one.

Are you going to include a "stack" measurement as well? And also is your "reach" measurement going to be horizontal from bb to bars or to the top center of the head tube???

You already do publish reach and stack for 2010.

Thanks that sounds doable! Just coming off an 09 Glory and looking to shed
some meat! It was a great bike but, a sled for sure. Weighed 14.5 with
raceface BB, Seat Post, saddle and shock w/ti spring. So prob. 13+ for
frame and shock.

6'1" and I've ridden a lot on both the L and M.

Large: super comfortable, stable, could really plow and cruise.

Medium: way more agile, easier to re-direct, and not really that cramped.

If I was a more causal rider I would have stuck with the large, but for racing I feel much faster on the medium because it's a lot easier to put the bike where I want it.

Slightly off topic but, does anyone have the 2010 demo 8 frame weight?
I've heard between 10.5 and 12.5 maybe without and with shock???
A medium painted frame weighed in at 11.4Lbs - this was with some weird headset insert pressed in from the factory. It looked like the bearing races from a 1.5 headset.
Incidentally this is almost exactly what a Medium Legend weighed in at.

England!! Rule Britannia!!!
OK then

Custom frame - Large toptube with medium standover.
Boxxer Teams
Burgtec - Bars -Stem - Peds
Reverse Race Light hubs on 721s
Wetscreams 2.5 Dual Ply
90 gram later tubes
x-0 running gear
sram cassette
Truvativ cranks
e13 36 tooth ring
currently on a Factory Pushed DHX until CCDB lands!
Truvativ Post
WTB Silverado.

Not exactly a light build but still comes in at a decent weight!

Does anyone know the leverage ratio (falling rate, rising rate, flat rate) of the 2010 Demo 8 or where I can find it?

thx
