We're planing on going to Ray's during the holiday's, plan are to be their on december 27-28 to ride there.

Anyone want to join?

What would be good to see or eat at since we're not from the area and probably never go back after that?

Bah. I want to rider there so bad. The new rhythm room looks killer.

I got invited to a event there in February but I don't think I can afford to make it out there with a bike.

I could do that, but getting out there... still too expensive I think with the wedding a couple months out and all.

Maybe I can make it out there sometime later in the year after the wedding?

I hear that place is a blast.
That's what we hear and it's why we want to go.... Only thing holding us at the moment is the weather on the 26, we'll have to go trough Buffallo and their lake effect... Don't want to go there in a snow storm

I've planned to incorporate side activities into my ray's trips, but it never happens. I just Ride, eat, sleep, then do it again.

The rock and roll hall of fame is pretty cool to see, but you can easily spend a whole day there. Granted, the last time I was there was a decade ago, and I was 12.

The Ray's site mentions a deal for riders at the local Holiday Inn. I've always stayed there and had great service, nothing to complain about, comes out to about $70 a night. I researched another place, can't remember the name, but it was also nearby for around 45-50 a night.

Check out a place called Stone Mad Pub in the Gordon Square/Detroit Shoreway area. Good restaurants, bars, coffee shops, bakeries, art galleries, etc. Melt is good, great beer, the sandwiches aren't all that. It's in an inner ring suburb called Lakewood, which has a ****load of good bars and places to eat. Do yourself a favor and check out the Westside Market for some local flavor. Tremont and Ohio City are 2 other cool neighborhoods on the west side with lots of good drinks & eats. Great Lakes Brewing is a must if you go to Ohio City. all the places I've mentioned are within a 10 min drive from Rays.

Brew Kettle is cool, but out in the burbs and not worth the trip. Don't bother with downtown or touristy things like the rock hall. Many cool things to do/see depending on what you're interested in. My recommendation is to get to Rays early, ride all day, and leave some time to see the city.

Thats exactly what we do too. We maybe leave once during the day to go back to the hotel. You find yourself riding for 10+ hours!

You will have a blast at Ray's. It can get a little crowded, but is a good time for sure and well worth the travel. Like Dirtygirl said, they have a good deal on the hotel too. On one trip however, we had more then four people and didn't want to get separate rooms, so we went a little further down the road to a Residence Inn. That got us a full kitchen and another bed and was only $90-$100 a night. Not bad. Have fun!

My wife gave me a choice. We can go to Hawaii for 2 weeks, or we can do something like this. I think she wants to go to Hawaii.
I'd go to hawaii to, maybe i take it for granted that it's about 1.5 hours away but i really dont enjoy going to cleveland, even if rays is there...sorta makes me depressed just being there.

Shoot me a PM when you firm up your plans. I live in Buffalo and have been dying to try out Rays, no-one around here ever has the time/money/inclination to go. I can even drive and have room for an additional bike on the rack.

yes! we rode the ENTIRE time it was open on saturday, 9-12 on sunday (16 hours total), and we were still wishing for more time. noah only took breaks to eat and drink and even rode the xc course several times on his 16" haro bmx.
we're going back, probably in feb/march.

and yes, cleveland is a hood-rat city. i had three bums ask me for cigs at my car window at different stop lights on the way from the hotel to rays...i kept my gun/badge in plain view after that. friggin dirty city..but rays is worth the trip for sure!

So any other good spots to hit while in cleveland? Looked into
Melt
Greatlakes
Stone Mad.

If we are staying at the Holiday Inn, is there anything over on that side of town so we can go from hotel to pub without crossing back over to the east side of rays? Anything with just a good jukebox, beer and burger or burritos? Melt seems to be in the best location between the 3 so far but the great lakes brewery looks interesting.

edit> I guess it seems the whole Lakewood area has a few spots to choose from. cool!

The area immediately around the hotel is ****, but there are good bars in the Kamms Corners a little over a mile from the Holday Inn. Check out PJ McIntyre's, Public House, West Park Station, or Paninis. They're all pretty much right next to each other, and will have a good crowd. For food near your hotel check out Mi Pueblo or Der Braumeister. West Park Station has good bar food, and Paninis has overstuffed sandwiches.

For a good, laid back time all those places will work. For more of a night out, see my earlier post. If you're a beer snob/connoisseur, hit up Great Lakes Brewing (decent food there too).
