I had a similarly equipped road bike in the mid 80s - it came with Araya double wall rims that where totally bomb proof with an excess of 70,000 miles on them. The guy I gave the bike to still rides it on a weekly basis. It had the same cranks you have now.

In a road race in the early 90 I clipped my right pedal (caged) and slid a good 30 feet at speed, those cranks stood true at the taper and held their thread at the pedal just fine. I've seen similar clips destroy splined cranks many time.

If you need any spare parts Splat has them; he will mail them for free, no questions asked. :)

Since it is the 29th here on the East Coast.... Some more pics.

Got the tires addressed this morning. Out with the old tires and in with Continental Sprinter Gatorskins, yes tubulars.

Nice classic bike Rip!!

I'll give you a pass on the lack of a wok in the pics because I dig that bike so much. If you ever want to sell it - send me a PM. ;)

How about the hoods the look like old rubber band. Will they be replaced too? Is the bike not super soft? My 80s road bikes were noodles.

I have a NOS Cylcone derailleur still in box and what I think is the exact same gran comp brake set sans gum hoods. If you want them they're yours gratis. PM if interested.

Edit - your hoods are in excellent condition - are they new?

There's some flex, but nothing to bad.

They were the hoods that came on the bike.

Update, this was pointed out by someone else. That I misread the serial code slightly. It's definitely a Trek 930, it's a 21" frame, the month built was March, but the 2nd number is the last number of the model year, thus instead of it being a 1979 Trek 930, I instead have a 1977 Trek 930 is somewhat rare.

From vintagetrek.com:
vintagetrek.com said:
From Trek serial numbers submitted, the production of the Model TX900 and the later Model 930 overlapped. TX900s were produced at least as late as April of 1978. The 930 was produced at least as early as March of 1978. One 930 was marked as made in March of 1977.

I love it. A vintage Trek (with the square seat lug) and a steel Allez are on my 'to have' list.
