Here's some results for one of the quickest and loosests race series around

http://www.vorb.org.nz/download/file.php?id=125769

Blinky, one his new Lapierre decked out in Fox kit, takes it from Leov. With a rapid Cam Cole in third. Sweet to see first year elite and curren Junior World Champ Mcdonald in 4th and new Ancillotti signing, junior, George Brannigan in 6th!

Plenty of pics on this Facebook link, but I've no idea wheter it's public or not!

Just a guess but maybe its part of the rules for the New Zealand nationals that you have to wear gloves for your race run? There is also a one of Sam in black kit with no gloves in that set of pics.

No gloves in this picture, and he's wearing royal gear it looks like here (661 kneepads). Perhaps he didn't have to wear gloves if they were mandatory until the finals?

what bike is wyn riding? has he got a deal sorted for this season?
Wyn is on a Lapierre.

From last year onwards Bike NZ made it mandatory to wear gloves at all Nat races...basically becasue all the kids wanted to be cool like Rankin and Blinky!

Other then that I heard that MTBNz/BikeNZ changed some sweet technical sections on this race track becasue some soft willys wern't keen on being tough, not really a good decision for the future.

Any word on the New Xprezo World Cup Team, Red Dog Racing ?
Yup Both their riders (James an Dan)where there, I talked to them in the pits and they where doing a good job reppin the bikes at every opportunity(looking good in matching bikes/kit too). Think they both finished not far out of the top 10 in Pro:thumb:

Yeah this was the main talking point of the weekend and in my opinion it was the right decision.
While some of the riders where loving it ALOT weren't and the track was basically mayhem during practise day due to there being bodies, or stopped riders at every 15-20meters of track with stoppages due to this every couple of minutes. This was making it impossible for anyone to ride for more than 100meters out having to stop(let alone get clean run).
Yes the track was SUPER steep/tech when you have riders like Sabrina J,Fabien P saying to your face that its to much, and Justin Leov commenting that the top section was harder than Champery. Then IMO its a bit much to throw 15yr old kids down it....Esp when due to circumstances out of everyone's control they only have one day to practice.
The track was only completed a couple of weeks before the event so was fresh and untested. I hope that the local club doesn't just give up on this track as once the top has been cleaned/fine-tuned and bedded in with a better access for spectators and medics etc, It will be an superb super tech course that will rival/beat anything anywhere.:thumb:
Well that's how i see it..I'm sure some others wont:think:

That's standard in NZ, I suppose that's the confidence 100% free health care gives you hahha!

nah i think the kiwis simply don't feel pain the same way...

met a girl last year in whistler she broke her wrist of the GLC drop and continued riding for another two weeks (in her cast)

btw hi phil just in case you read this :)

Thanks, P.T.W. !!

What about Rankin ? What was he riding ?

found another one of Dan. Gonna be a rippin year !!
Rankin was at home working, he'll be racing the North island rounds on an Intense. He'll be on a different deal for Europe/WC though. Hopefully he can get some more top results as he is still one of the fastest kiwis, especcially when things get steep or wild, his line choice and vision is second to none!

Thanks for the info, was wondering if he was back with Foes in NZ. Any updates on his wc ride?

You got it pretty much right , I was the guy walking / stretchering riders off the hill ( it was so steep we had to let the stretcher down with attached rope off the step downs ). It was getting pretty crazy at the bottom section
Gravity Canterbury are going to develop this track over the next 12 months and it will be world class 4 sure ;)
The main reason for the change of track was rider safety, access for medics was less than ideal and nobody wants to see riders getting maimed. I ride with a lot of these guys so it gets kinda personal to. Justin Loev pretty much stood up and called it and the riders agreed that the track be changed.
It was a great weekend, the riders made the most of the situation and are no doubt itching to ride MkII.

Kiwis being tough - well one guy who came to grief off a big drop dislocated his knee ( a full 90* ), we removed his shin guard, he looked at his knee and proceeded to wrench it back into place ( right in front of me ) :bad: . What a hard ass

faAAAAAAAAAAAAARKKKKK.

I did that with my ankle, but within the first couple of seconds while the adrenalin was still flowing so was not much (more) pain... after that long? That is some hard boiled sh1t right there... Must have been a west coaster eh?

i just looked through that one photogs pics and that was some nice shots. BUT, at the same time, it really evident that there are some RIPPERS over there. Photogs can do some good work to make an am look pro, but you can tell from body positioning that the majority of those riders are hauling!

Oh, and while I am doing my best to move from full on moto kit to trail/race type stuff, it's apparent that NZ has some unspoken rule about kitting up to the max! Think I saw maybe 2 t-shirts and 1 hoody tops.

Same for every UK race I've done, gravel rash sucks!

Under 18's are also reqd to wear full hard shell spinal, knee, shin, elbow and shoulder protection. Where as us oldies only have to wear gloves and a spine board.

It should maybe be the other way around tho, the young 'uns seem to bounce waaaay better ;)

Its not an unspoken rule unfortunately.

Long sleeves (or hard shell pads for juniors), gloves, fullface and long pants/hard shell pads are all compulsory as of last year.

2 years ago it was gloveless and T-shirt dominated.

BikeNZ didn't really give any reason behind why gloves became compulsory last year, just a blanket increase in minimum levels of protection.

Most regional races have a fullface minimum requirement although are slowly moving to the same requirements as national events.
